I was just curious to see if anyone made a turbo for an 02 or 03 R1 yet. I was on the Next Level Racing site and they have a link for Mcxpress for a turbo for our bikes but i couldn't get much info about it......

Unfortunately there isn't too much info on their website about the kit.
They use a lot of McXpress parts, but also do a lot of custom jobs.

Looking at the pictures I'd say they use their own header, plenum, intercooler, and exhaust with the McXpress turbo and secondary controller.

Based on the prices they charge for the other efi kits and the fact that you don't have to pay the German 19%VAT I think it'll cost you something like 4400EUR = 6460USD.

The weak dollar really sucks for you guys if you want to buy some stuff from overseas

In case you're still interested I'm sure you can get all the detailed info by writing them an email.

I am considering to start producing the kits for the 02-03 r1's..... I am turbocharging mine right now and I will keep you all updated with pics and info. If interested pm me so I know roughly who all is game. The more that go for it the cheaper. Once I get mine perfected I will build a jig and just go from there. S&R Pro quit making the turbo setups for the 02-03 because they take a little more to pull 300+ horse out of. If you want a manifold or an intake plenum I can do so too or if you want a whole kit I can do so too. Pm me if you have any questions.

Sounds good, I'm glad people are starting to look at turbing the 02-03.

What is your target bhp?

any news to this?

I was in the process of getting parts to do a twin turbo for my 04 just for the hell of it. I personaly think most turbo kits are vastly overpriced (for cars or bikes). If you can find someone to tig for you the rest is cake. Or you can find intakes, header, turbo and so on seperate. But anyways for those wanting kits, parts, or info you can check here.

yes they are expensive.. but with first hand knowledge of what old saying says.. :u get what u pay for!. u get there R&D done for you, basic tune, and fit and finish. yes someone with good skill can turbo anything. but difference is fit and finish, time doing it, and it running 200 hp vs 280-400hp from kit from known turbo supplier. nothing wrong with doing it urself. but dont expect to build it from scratch, buy cheap turbos on ebay(that prolly need to be rebuilt and wore out) and go out and lay down serious power without FMU and tuning. not to mention to make good power and reliability.. u have to knock some of compression out of bike.. with thicker headgasket(which u need cam tension spacer to adjust for moving head up) or turbo pistons. ive built several turbos with kits and done motors. its not easy and by far not cheap. wish it was. someone did tell me 2 days ago, there is turbo kit out for 02-03s online somewhere.. heard it was at least $4k to start. i havent looked for it either.

did you ask shane mccoy?

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it's the easiest thing in the world to do and everyone should go try it. If someone has no other options though and is determined to do it you really end up with one of two choices. Building it yourself or paying a shop to do it. I understand what you are saying about fit, finish, and r&d but it was just my opinion. I know they don't make kits to just let us crazy people go faster than thought possible. Anyway I forgot to list orientexpress.com they don't have kits for any R1s that I know of but maybe they have created one since I've looked. You could try to find a local shop that has experience with this as well. Off subject but 1longr1 where are you at in texas? Just wondering if you knew a good shop for tuning? I could probably do some street tuning but I am used to being able to tune as you go like with cars. I imagine it would be difficult to make lots of changes on the fly while riding. I talked to some shops in the houston area about my plan before my accident and they all looked at me like I was crazy lol. One said they could handle it but I don't know for sure.

im in west texas, odessa precisely. and yes it can be done and get good results. just its not easy job. u have to have skills, or checkbook to pay for it. there are some good tuners around state..just depends on where u live.

#25 ·
O I know I just meant if you had any personal experience with semi-local tuners. I haven't come across anyone running a turbo or any shops that have done tuning on one very often. Ktshs2 were you able to find any kits for your bike yet?

#27 ·
I spoke to a tuner here at the NEC bike show he quoted me ~?4000 and 3 months of work.

most of guys i know.. do there tuning on turbo bikes.. at track. not on dyno. tho johnny cheese has good rep for turbo tuning. think he is in austin area now.

about right. ive seen stuff as cheap for some bikes at like $3500 up to $12500. i know what comes with full blown velocity race kit thats over $12k. u get boost controller, water injection, turbos, plenum, secondary injectors, map and such, fittings, spacer plate, header. its large box... but not large enuff for $12k.. but it is. lotsa R&D and such in box like that.. but it makes over 550 hp. cheaper kits, are going on stock motors, low boost, not many extras.
