Can a stock '04-'05 R1 (yes...Raven the faster one) beat a zx12r? My bike is not broken in yet so I can't try it yet. I was on the zx12r.org site and I let them know I sold my 03' 12r for a '05 R1. Some were kool and gave props and talked trash. I've heard second hand stories how the '04 and '05 has but, never first hand. Let me know, here is the time for some braggin rights. I know '05s are doing high 9.0's in the 1/4.

Once again it all comes down to who is riding it. I've seen TL-Rs with a swingarm run 10 flat and ZX-12s and Hayabusas that couldn't break into the 10s at all. Its always the rider.

My bud has a ZX12, and we raced twice..actually, there were 12 bikes in a row at the light at the tail end of a ride together. We all lined up, and i beat him, but it was close (actually, i beat all of them:thumbup ). I rode his bike before and it does have alot of power, but to be honest, i dont think it could beat an R1 (2004-05), with a rider who has the same exact reaction times. Having said that, shifting at the wrong rpm even 500rpm difference, or anything of that liking could make all the difference.

Cheers

First things last, the two bikes you are compairing were designed for different purposes, the R1 is 100 lbs lighter for a reason, to maintain a high level of agility, mixed with raw power to be able to negotiate twists and turns with elevation changes at high speeds. The 12r I will grant you is also a "sport bike" however in my humble opinion it is designed more for the straight liners, it is heavier for stability, and does not perform as well in the twistys , however on the long straights it is smooth and fast. depends on rider. i rode several 12s at track. 2 that i rode on e ran 10.44 completely stock. other had pipe no pc ran 10.33. my 04 R1 stock b4 i did anything to it at same track ran 10.17 . but you cant compare different days at track with different weather conditions. our track is slow compared to sea level track by about .4. 3200ft elevation with corrected elevation oF 6000FT. Doesnt mean that i couldnt get faster on 12. jsut it was too tall and too tall gearing for dragracing. so a sprocket and lowering it would make it much better. BUT stock for stock...depends on rider, rider weight, and comfort on bike. there are plenty of fast 12's and R1s. the 12 is much easier to dragrace with the weight and longer wheelbase. just find one and get it on with them to see. best way go to track so you have timeslip to compare. good luck

sorry dude...can't resist chiming in....why in the world does it matter what beats what??? unless you are at a dragstrip...there is not a controlled test..i.e., the street is just the dumbest place to even think about racing and stuff...

The other thing is the Cycle World last month where Gadson ran sub 10 second runs on stock R6 and 636! So if he can do it....imagine the 12R and R1.

Not stock - he changed the front sprocket... Also went 9.5 on a Busa and 9.6 on a 12R with just a sprocket change (Keith Dennis did).

It is really all based on the rider. A guy in Gville rides a stock wheelbase Busa with stock exhaust and has gone 9.67@146 (he weighs 190lbs) with it. I know i never went that fast stock wheelbase.
