I didnt and it was one huge mistake. I picked up a lot of bad habits while riding around and learning on my own. As soon as i took the safety course i relalized quick, how important that class was after riding around and using those safety lessons to my advantage in several "close" situations....
I highly recommend the riders safety courses to any new riders... :thumbup
I agree comletely... I was like F that... I am too cool for that crap. They broke a few of my bad habits. Now I push it on new riders every chance i get.
There wasn't any courses when I started but as soon as they did have one the Navy made you take one to get your sticker to get your bike through the gate.
As you can see from the card number I was one of the first 320 people to take the course.
They didn't have any such thing when I started. It was trial and error thing, but we didn't have 160hp bikes back then or the amount of cars on the road either. I survived though! lol So far anyways! Been riding for at least 43 years.
I didn't take one when I first started rideing but I didn't have an R1 either, I had an 1982 (I think) Kawasaki CSR 650, paid $700 for and dropped it a few times. :riding
Yeah I took it, paid for itself with the insurance I saved. It will teach you good habits, and if you have riding experience, it will break your bad habits.
No. In the early 70's it wasn't even a thought. I not sure if there were any schools back then. I learned on a Honda CBT twin 500 for about 2 years. Then got the King of the road in 1977, KZ1000. The sport and the bikes sure have changed a lot since those days. I have read a few good book in the last couple of years that have helped to sharp my skills.
My wife and I took it together, it was a less of a hassle than doing the DMV test. I took away a lot of good tips from it too. Money well spent. I was disappointed though, because they didn't tell me anything about ProRacer mode.
I have been riding since I was 11, so when it came time that i was legal to ride, I had 5 yrs under my belt so the course was not needed. Passed it first time, no errors, 100%.........
i just took the motorcycle safety foundation. i recommend all the new riders take this class at least once. i didnot take this class before i got my bike. but i took the class before i am going to start riding.
nope...bought my bike..had my dad take it to an empty parkin lot for me and learned there. after i got the basics it was a trial and error thing for me...luckily all trial and no error haha
I rode dirt bikes as a kid (still do) so when I got my first street bike I just took it to the DMV and it was a breeze to pass their skills test. Years later, I think in 2001, I took the Advanced Rider Course from the MSF. It was still pretty basic but now I get a discount on my insurance because of it.:lol
