I have my bike insurance through Progressive and just got a quote for $1600 a year. More than I would like to spend on insurance.

Can some forum members help me out and tell what is a good company to go with and how much are they paying for the 2015 R1?

Thank you R1 members :)

are you saying 1600 is too much?

i had my midnight warrior insured through progressive and it was about $1100 a year. they quoted me 8K for the year for my r1 :bowrofl:

i went with state farm. $2600 for the year because i wanted $250 deductibles. would have been ~1800-2000 with higher deductible.

This isn't very useful, but I have AAA and they gave me the best price to be 100% insured. I don't remember how much I paid, but I do know it was cheaper the State Farm, Farmers, Progressive, Geico and all the other major insurance co. I have had to use them for a accident on a previous bike and a theft of another bike and I have to say they way they took care of everything and me I will never use another co. So I highly recommend!! Plus you get as part of your membership 100 miles of free towing if needed. Hope this gave you some info to look into. They are the Auto Club for a reason I they do look out for you and give you the service you pay for and don't take your money. Hopefully they are never needed, but if they are they will look out for you 100%. Ride safe :riding

holy jumpin jesus!

i think the most ive paid was for my 2012CBR1000RR when i first got it at like... 90 a month or something.. which is less than half what you are! even with an 80/55 ticket on the bike and rolling my 11 tacoma... in 2011.

I work in a motorcycle dealership & see rates all over the board... seen just about every company have the best rate for a given customer in one case or another... with no real rhyme or reason as to "why"...

So i suggest shopping around... even if you have been with the same company for years... just means they been screwing you for multiple years!!!

I'm 31 with a relatively clean record.
Married.
Decent credit.

I pay $168.34 every six months for my M with progressive through USAA.

oddly, my 2014 tiger is more expensive to insure for me at $185.70

My 2014 Tacoma is 269.01

my wife's 2011 fj ruins things though. 710.13 every six months. FML

Everything is full coverage $250 deductible for the bikes $500 for the trucks, 100/50k limits on all.

Edit: I was a little blown away by the policy prices per vehicle so I updated things. Primary drivers, mileage per year, etc. I guess I had some shit backwards? The tiger annual mileage is higher than the M, but nearly double still throws me for a loop. $9k bike ins is double $23k? whatever, ill take it!

14 Tacoma 255.10
11 FJ 348.07
14 tiger800xc 282.96
15 R1M 154.71

Per six months. I almost choked when the agent told me the price for the M.

Agreed! It came as a pretty lousy surprise.

$22k R1M - $2,300
$60k F-150 - $800

Crazy.

One of the brass at USAA has been trying to get in my pants over the last few years. After seeing your savings, I might just give her what she wants. Lol.

I'm 25 and married. I cant remember my last speeding ticket, maybe 2008/2009 time period.

I use State farm bundled with my home owners and other crap...

My vehicle policy which covers,
-2002 F350
-2006 Toyota Sienna
-2006 SV650
-2015 R1

Totals out to 301 a month or 3612 a year which i think is pretty darn reasonable.

Jumpin' Jehosophat!! Some of the insurance prices listed here made me choke...

My 2000 R1 - $575/year and that is even after it jumped from me being honest and telling them the displacement is 1055cc up from 998...

My 2002 RS Warrior also like $560/year.

I am 42 and clean driving record for 9 years.

2015 R1 I have AAA full coverage with $500 deductible and mine runs $600 a year with a ticket on my record.
Doing some insurance shopping hoping to get a better rate from last year. So for all of you that have AAA insurance, Who is the underwriter for them? Or are you insured directly with AAA?? I'm being told by a AAA local agent here in Southeast Georgia that They don't Insure Mortorcycles so I'm confused:icon_confused:

As I mentioned in another recent thread, Progressive quoted me $135 a year for liability, fire & theft. I didn't get a quote with collision coverage because the bike's 15 years old and I don't have a loan on it. I'm 56 and have a clean record, although that may change when the R1 goes on the road in spring!

Carne - Still have mine, I like all bikes and my wife so far is generous enough to let me have both...

Again, just a general comment but wow, some of the prices quoted here... well I have 2 bikes insured for the price of 1 for what some of you guys are paying. Strange how much it can vary state to state and province to province

i wonder if it costs more out here because we can ride all year

im jelly. i wish i could have kept my warrior. but the gf said no to me having 2 bikes, we are trying to buy a house.

Dude, that's nothing... this isn't some FZ6 that you want to have dairy land 34 bucks a month cover. We're talking about a superbike that could potentially kill you or someone else if YOU let it or someone decides to pull out in front of you. Mine is $134 a month, roughly 1600 a year for an 05 R1. I added life insurance to that and it only went up $10. I have awesome medical insurance on my own and through work. I have life insurance through work as well, but that's because my job can potentially be dangerous.

Gotta pay to play man. Insurance on my pre 2000 Trans Am and Camaro were $180 a month, insurance on my 2009 G8 GT that I have now is $121 a month.

Your bike is a brand new, hottest of the hot superbike. If you expect to get less than $1600 a year for a brand new R1, it's not even going to be worth paying for because it will be crappy insurance.

No I disagree respectfully. You are in that way automatically penalizing a guy who picks a 2015 R1, vs a slow pig HD Cruiser - both are equally capable of killing you, and I could convincingly argue that the 2015 R1 is much much safer than an HD Wideglide that weighs 3 times more and can barely get out of it's own way. Insurance basically weighs the cc's. and how much you want to insure it for... really should not be much different than a vehicle. As said, for $1150/yr I can get TWO bikes insured all in... glad I live in Alberta where insurance competition seems to be doing it's job!

Carne - yep wishing I was in Sandy Eggo riding all year round, had a couple big snowstorms here in Calgary... however, last year I did ride every single month... there are enough Chinooks that the snow melts and the roads are reasonable enough to go for a ride even in winter. Just got to watch all the road grime on the edges and the pea-gravel that accumulates from sanding the roads during snow. Instead, here I sit... in Cow town... in a snow bank... tinkering on my 4 bikes in the garage...

I'm 30 with a clean driving record and I'm paying 1700 a year here in Tucson. My biggest worry is theft. Being close to the border there's a lot of thieves. Right now it's through pacific specialty(it was the lowest full coverage option when I was at the dealer). I payed the year in full and when it runs out I may just bundle with Geico. I hear good things about them.

I remember when I traded my Vrod in and got my 15 R1.....my heart stopped when she said $1010 a month. I had already been with progressive for a year. But of course I cancelled my Progressive policy and switched to DairyLand. Still paying out the ass, but I'm 24 and only 1 speeding ticket in my short life. Haha

And yes... $1010 A MONTH!!

I pay 60 a month for my 2005 r1 and 60 a month for my 2010. Comes to $1440 a year for full coverage on both bikes. State Farm. 1 accident in January 2002.

I used USAA forever and then in 2011 they stopped letting me insure with them. I had a zx6r and a zx10r with them the 600 was $25 a month full coverage and the liter bike was $45 a month. I shopped around and found progressive a bit too expensive but State Farm was ok. At the time I had an s1000 and an 848 and they were about 75-90 a month each for full coverage. When I got the R1 in Alaska it was 95 a month full coverage. Since moving here and changing my State Farm broker it's now 53 a month for full coverage but the bike model they list on my insurance card is not R1 like it was in Alaska. I immediately called the broker and told them my bike is not a cruiser it's a sport bike. I took a pic of both insurance cards (Alaska vs South Carolina ) so the broker verified my vin and confirmed the rate. My concern is the model still lists it as some Yamaha cruiser?
