Glasses and Helmets

Hey Gang,

I wear prescription glasses when I ride. I got a nice pair of Wiley-Xs for the cruiser but they wont squeeze under my full-face helmet (older Shoei) when I ride my R1. My Shoei's design also doesn't work well with glasses...the temple of the glasses rests along a recess/junction of two of the helmet pads and lifts the glasses off my nose...it's a PIA...

I'm looking at new helmets and 'riding' glasses with straight, narrow temples that will be easy to put on after the helmet. I'm sure some of you'all have to deal with glassess.

Any suggestions for riding glasses (make/model) and helmets. As far as my head shape is concerned, the Scorpion 700 fits my head well however, I have not ridden this helmet.

Oh and forget contacts...I got 'em but their another PIA...

Thanks all...

I use glasses with the unbrakable metal wire frames. Sometimes it takes a bit of poking around to get them just where you want them but they never bend or break so they work out pretty good. I do agree with the guy about the frames sometimes beig in the way for spirited riding. That can be a bit of a pain at times.

I'm too much of a little girl to try contacts. I let the optician put one in for a tester session, freaked out and eventually went back to the shop about four hours later for him to take it out. I had to apologise something chronic for the hell I gave him when the poor sod was trying to get it out...

I wear glasses full time but struggle with them under a helmet unless I'm going slow and can keep my head up so the frames don't obscure the view. So I normally ride 'quickly' without them on and then all I see is grey, green and blue bands. When the grey and green shift left, I turn the bike left, shift right, turn right.

How shameful is that? I really must man up and sort that out... :(

Not being lazy about contacts....I tried it...I agree contacts would be optimal under a helmet. I just don't get the wear hours I want out of them before my eyes dry out and get blurry...and forget about opening the shield a bit for a breeze with contacts on...and about reading anything close-up (menu) with contacts on.

Thanks again for the info. I'll check out the Scorpion 700 and some new glasses.

Two different brands of helmets (RF1000 and Quantum/Fs) and three different pairs of sun/prescription glasses. The whimpy framed prescrips are a pain to get into the helmet. Once on I usually have to leave the visor shut all the time. Even a slight breeze at low speed waters my eyes. The "arms" on my sunglasses are stiffer, and harder to get comfortably behind my ears, but once behind they are okay. Glasses under a helmet are a curse by design. Not sure of the optimum solution.

Thanks for the replies. Good to hear about the EXO 700 and glasses...that helmet fits me well.

Now the glasses...I checked Wiley-X's site today. There maybe a model or two with straight temples that would be relatively easy to slide under a FF helmet...have to try some on. I currently have their Rage model (prescription)...they fit my face well but I can't get them on under a Shoei without destroying them. Anyone else wear this model or something similar? I need something that will handle precription lenses.

Thank again....
