Help With Heat Reduction?

Anyone have advice on how to reduce the heat on 2012 R1, do a titanium y-pipe help over a steel? Is wrapping or getting the pipes coat help. Any advice would be great, thanks

A lot of the heat you are feeling is coming from the catalytic converter in the Y pipe. Replacing that with an aftermarket Y pipe will eliminate 90% of your heat problem. I replaced mine and had the bike dyno tuned and no more heat problems. You'll likely smell more like exhaust once you replace the Y pipe though.

What are your coolant temps like when cruising at highway speed consistently?

Your tune might be too lean. These bikes are BBQs though. Removing my cat helped a ton with the lower leg heat... if it's tuned too lean you'll see a large spike in temps though no matter what your other mods are.

If you keep the AIS enebled that might help a tiny big too due to fresh air working through the exhaust whenever you coast.

Make sure your radiator is clean and you have good coolant.

I dropped my fan temp thresholds to 196\207 and it seems to work pretty well for me like that.

Guys does removing the cat help any with coolant temps as well?? Or just help with the seat heat. I have the 04 r1 and all though it doesn't run as hot as the 09/14 it just doesn't run as cool as my 02 r1 did. Even the hottest days as long as I was riding I stayed in the 160s and on my 04 the only time I stay in the 160s is on cool days. A really hot day will run upper 170/185 while moving at a decent pace. If I get slowed down at all I start to see 190s and at that temp soon as you hit a couple stop sighns your over 200. I have a full new arrow system to install and wonder if it will help to make the bike run any cooler like my 02 r1 did. I have a second radiator ordered from Macs radiator but it's been over a month and I've not even been instructed to pay so no idea what's going on there. Guess they are really busy.

That's pretty regular as far as temps go. On my 05, I'm running around 190 as long as I'm moving at a good pace, I only stay 160-180 in the morning hours before it gets to the real summer FL heat! As soon as I stop I'm in the +200s and my fans start to kick on (219). I just changed out my coolant to engine ice a few months ago and this brought my running temps down to where they are now. I honestly try not to ride (start riding) in +90 heat. Sweat box! I've got a full M4 system and PCV.

Yes it's normal I know but anything above 185 starts costing power so I'm good as long as I'm moving it stays fairly cool. I'm buying a second radiator just to help it keep cooler in the lower speeds. I feel keeping it 190 and under will help in the long run.
