How do the R1 2002 headlights work

Might sound like a stupid question but I have just upgraded from an R6 to a 2002 model R1 and the headlights don't seem to work like they should.

The low beam is really good, i have plenty of light, however when I switch to high beam the light seems to disappear and i'm only left with light pointing to the left and right and nothing in the center.... however all the lights seem to be working fine and the globes look to be OK.

So what i'd like to know is on low beam should all 4 lights be on or only 2? and the same question for high beam, obviously the lights that have the H4 bulbs in them should stay on and switch to high beam but i'd imagine that the other 2 lights should only be on at high beam?

You should have two on for low beam and two on for high beam, you can adjust the lens using the screws on the back of the headlights, the two lower screws either side of the fairing mounting bracket adjust the lens vertically and the two outer/upper screws adjust horizontal HTH

just asking..cause well it is possible. when you say your just getting a light to the left and to the right...your not talking about the smaller running lights up front are the only thing on are you? if thats the case then you may have a wiring issue with the high beams, or just not have any bulbs in the high beam sockets.

Definately not standard 02 lights, havent really had a close enough look at later models lights to be able to confirm what model year theyre from or how they operate, hopefully someone else with a later model can help confirm

Thanks,

They must be some type of aftermarket bolt on headlight for the 02/03 model as they fit like a standard headlight.

I'll have to have a play with the wiring and see if I can work out whats happening with the high beam.
