I have recently put a new chain on my bike and the lube that comes on them will not clean off my wheel. Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, please share what you used to get this crap off. I've tried dawn dish liquid (always works great on grease), S100 cleaner and alot of very hard rubbing. I've gotten a lot of it off but not all of it. Just don't have any arm left for the hard rubbing that is needed anymore, I need an easy way to do this. PLEASE! HELP!

WD-40 works, but not near as good as kerosene does...

And you should clean the chain with kerosene also, not WD-40...

:fact
I average 24,000+ miles out of a chain (1986 ZX1000, 1988 ZX-10, 1995 FZR1000, 2001 R1, 2008 R1 - all high HP motors) and all I ever use on it is WD-40. Do a search, you'll find that the guys who get max life out of their chains use WD-40 to clean it. They also don't use chain lubes that do nothing but attract dirt and dust and form a nice grinding compound when mixed with the chain lube/wax.

Keeping the chain clean in the first place is the key to long chain life.

In the end, do what you want. If you want max xhain life though, you'll use WD-40 exclusively.

As always, the lawyers make me say YMMV.

Spray a clean rag with copious amounts of WD-40, wipe all the gunk off your wheel.

Wash your bike, and towel it off.

Take it for a 5 mile ride to get it fully dried off.

Wax your bike as well as your wheels. This will make all future removal efforts of chain lube SO much easier.

This is what I do and they always look good and easy to clean :thumbup

Well, after doing my research over the past 18yrs of street riding...

I've come to the conclusion, we all should use what works best for us individually... I use kerosene... :)

I do use WD-40 occasionally, so it mixes with the lube already on the chain... :sneaky

But I do find kerosene cleans lube off the best... Which is the O.P.'s question... :fact

Here's what 10 minutes of cleaning (in total, with kerosene) did for both my chain & rim (and most of the little nooks'n'crannies around the front sprocket) with that nylon brush...

Then I just spray abit of lube on with the engine running...

*And for the record, WD-40's main ingredient... Stoddard solvent... As in, a degreaser...
