Don't forget about the whole "gentlemen's agreement" the Metric mike manufacturers supposedly had from 1999, up until a few years ago when Italy said F no, we are going all the way.

 

I just tell people about 200, that's what they want to hear anyway, lol. They think because it's shaped like a rocket it should go just as fast as one.

 

I get the same question lol. I havent hit the limiter. Don't really feel the need to because I got it so I can go drag my knee

I too was a bit disappointed when I first got into motorcycles and found out liter bikes can't reach 200mph (not counting Hyabusas and ZX14's, eff those pointless things) Fast forward 2 years of owning a liter bike and I haven't gone over 114 lol.

I think people underestimate the top speeds because they don't have long enough roads. I know a road out in the boonies that's semi-deserted, limited access and straight for about 7 miles.

I got my f4i to 150mph clocked by gps there and I've had my R1 up to 170 indicated on the racetrack with loads of power left.

 

I'm so jealous you have to find roads that have 7 mile straightaways that are deserted. I have multiple 10+ mile straights on my commute to work everyday It shouldn't more than a few miles of straight to hit top end though

 

I have a 2000 R1 with the yosh tri-oval slip on and K&N, before additional mods, I clocked it at about 172 on my garmin (all tucked in over several miles wot)

 

It's comical really, anything over 150 is f'ing moving. And honestly unless you're a racer or a motorcyclist. Most people won't go over a 150 in a road vehicle.

 

A lot of people I know think 100mph is some crazy almost unattainable speed. I know people who have never had their cars over 80mph and don't ever plan to. I guess we're different kinds of people.

 

I enjoy opening her up, Tbh its hard to keep it legal sometimes the bike just wants to cruise in the triple digits.
still.. more often than not when the opportunity arises I open her up. Im pretty used to 130, 140. 150 feels quick.
The top Iv gotten so far was 178(indicated). I wanted to keep going but alas the limitations of the road stayed my hand.

The opportunity doesn't arise often and I don't enjoy speeding on public roads. I'm sure the bike will pull at least 180 stock.

 

Geeze, we hardly have straights here which is funny considering I live in FL. I haven't had many opportunities to open up my bike

 

You were pretty much spot on with your original answer of 170. A stock '00 will do about 167. It runs out of HP to go any faster. People don't realize what it takes to do 200. Wind resistance increases by the square of the speed. You have to have a special bike to do 200.

Fastest I've been (on land) was on my brother's 929RR. Up a grade, it was still pulling when the speedo hit 172 and I backed out of it. Don't know what my actual speed was. Haven't had the opportunity for that kind of velocity on my R1 yet.

200 MPH is really rockin'. There's a reason you're in the club at Bonneville if you hit it.

 

i dont try to hit the top speed of my 09 but it is very quick to get her to 130-150 mph and as mentioned before we r on public roads so its always good to expect something unexpected.
yeah cagers cant even get to these speeds ....and it sound crazy for them.

 

I think that's one of the must exciting things about having any liter sport bike. You can hit 130 within seconds. I do 130 every time I ride the bike but do it where I don't put anyone in danger. When you've live'ed somewhere long enough you know the areas where you can do a 10 second WOT and shut it down just as fast.
