hi all!

I was hoping someone out there knows how many magnets are supposed to be insde the rotor assembly, I am faced with the task off assessing the damage and if I'm going to just start saving for a new motor.

also when I was talking to my shop the tech told me that this happens from nglect or not taking café of the bike. also wasn't a Yamaha dealer. just a local shop here in Vancouver bc. but run by someone I think knows more than yoda on the subject. he said its cheeper to buy a new motor and if there is a piece that ends up in the trans it would be devastating....

thanks for all who chip in here with your knowledge.

There are supposed to be 16 magnets on the rotor.

I'm certainly no expert on the subject, but I wouldn't run out a buy a new motor if all you have is a few magnets missing from your rotor. I had over 65k miles on my '04 and below is a picture of what I found when I did a motor overhaul (completely unrelated to a rotor issue). So this happened at some point and I saw no adverse effect on the bike. The bike still started and charged the battery with no problem.

You may want to drop the oil pan and see if you can recover any additional magnet pieces. I am pretty sure this is the most likely place the pieces would end up.

if 16 is the lucky number I'm happy I think ive pieced them all together so far I think i've got it all without having to drop oil pan however I'm going to drop the oil pan tonight.

do you think it would be ok to mix up some good 2 part epoxy and stick em all back in there? my basket/spacer has been thrown out by mistake?

thanks for the help btw!

The broken magnets won't have the same magnetic field because they're basically separate magnets now. It won't be as good as an unbroken magnet, but it would probably do the job. However, do you really want to risk a damaged rotor in the motor? I mean you got lucky this time, you might not get so lucky the next time.

so I have done some realistic crunching of the numbers and I'm gonna see if I can scoop up a 05 motor off a board member delivered for a extremely fair price.

Also on a side note.... the new rotor assembly with the new design to prevent "magnets-chaos" and the sator also having a new part number and revision been done, does this mean the whole stator and rotor be changed at same time because of the old part not fitting(first gen stator work with a new rotor 2nd gen Rotor)?

also if anyone wants to buy anything I will be having a liquidation of all and everything I have to buy a new motor. Tool chest, ex girlfriends cat, As well as liver and kidney and bone marrow... So if you know someone in the market I got no dignity, its up for sale as well... lol:bsflag:
