Well just searching around and reading all these threads. It appears that most people on this forum or r1 members seem to be a lot older then I am.

So question that I thought up is how old were you when you landed your r1? and was it a good decision in hindsight for your needs / wants?

I'll start out.

bought r1 used for 5,300 at the current age I am now of 21. yeah im a baby still :flex: Currently my only mode of transportation use r1 as daily transportation to campus here at vt. as far as practicality. there really is none. I am one of the fewer liters around here which i guess is kinda cool in my balls are bigger then yours. :dunno I have some huge chicken strips cause well, im a chicken. and am too scared to find my limit and lose my transportation.

fell in love with the lines of the bike is why i bought it and moved to it after 3yrs of a 500r.

i try to be responsible as a 21 yr old can be. dont stunt other then a few learning wheelies maybe 4 all power. my biggest danger around here is dumbass kids on cell phones and drunk drivers.

so far been pretty safe except a girl and some sorority hoes almost waxed me today.

just seeing how you felt about your first r1
ride safe.:rock

LOL , what about the other two years, sure you're dealin' with a full house?

I bought the original 98 red/white in 98, R1's were pretty damn rare at the time. I was 19 and just finished 4 years of "putting in my dues" on an 91 GS500E (40 hp baby!). The ride out of the shop blew my mind, half throttle and the front was space bound, putting a grin ear to ear.

I purchased my first R1 a 2000 at age 32 before that I had a 1997 YZF 1000 purchased new when I was 29. The R1 was the bike I wanted the Thunder Ace to be but it never was it was a nice bike but the R1 was leaps and bounds ahead of it. I can't imagine owing a big bore sport bike before age 25. I had no fear or no brains or experience. I most likely would have killed my self. I lost 5 riding buddies in a six month period in my early years of riding and they were all younger than me. That being said my first street bike was a 1985 Yamaha V-Max. I purchased it when I was 23 or 24 and started drag racing.

Uh, i think i might take the cake in saying that im in the process of getting an r1 and i'm only 17. Been riding for a year and made my progressions. I'm not a stuck up rich kid as i had a hand me down first bike thats ten years older than me, then built my katana with my grandpa and spent a grand total of about a thousand dollars on it. I'm just glad i started saving birthday money for many many years as a young(er) kid.

i have been told that i ride and and act like someone easily twice my age if that has any credit i dont know hahaha

just wanted to say your bike is the nicest i've seen on this site IMO :)

i just got my first r1 after riding my gsxr600 for a season. i baught it all smashed to shyte and am in the process of restoring my beauty. i'm the ripe ol age of 22, but i'll be turning 23 in a month!! no regrets besides maybe making an offer on anonymousr1's bike first. :crash

i wish i was atleast 25. Insurance would be so much easier!!!!

right now its a huge pain in the ass even on my bike i have now.

I think an R1 will be worth it though

insurance is seriously going to take a toll. But i want to make sure my bike is covered if i lose traction in a turn or something happens by fluke that is "my fault." I just wouldn't want insurance to say nah, we wont cover a low side due to losing traction around a corner

i've had my 07 for a year and 2 months now... bought it in august of 07 When i was 20. Now im 21! hahaha, my first bike i also bought in 07 in march (ninja 650R)....
