you can use a 10k and it will turn off the light but the ecu does use the postion of the exup motor for calculations. its in the service manual for th 02 just leave it plugged in with the power you have 1Lb aint gonna make a diffrence.

There are quite a few threads on this if you do a search. I believe the bottom line discovered back in the days the 02 came out was that the ignition map is tied to the position of the Servo (exhaust valve) and that by using a resistor the system sees the servo as being in one position at all times. This is what the Sams Servo sub is supposed to fix, it creates a variable resistance that mimics the actual servo. I dont know if it does, or how accurately it does. Most came to the conclusion that it was easier to just leave the motor attached and not worry about it. Its not like you are saving a bunch of weight by removing it.
By looking at the product I thinks its just a basic resistor. This company doesn't develop high tech components. All of their products have very basic circuitry. I doubt they can come up with anything that complex.
The servo motor is a slave to the ECM. It provides no feedback other than resistance indicating it's plugged in. Why would the ECM need to ask the exup servo how open the valve is ? The ECM tells it what to do. Using feedback from the exup would be a redundancy.

Besides why remove it? It's funny, if an r1 didn't come with one but was offered by two brothers people would be tripping all over themselves to buy a full system featuring the exup valve. Probably the same people who have removed their's already.

we are getting off topic but pre 04 models suffer from installing full systems that remove the exup

04+ when you put a full system on you get huge gains ( i got 20 hp ) in the midrange and had no power losses anywhere. Its been well documented that the exup has turned from a midrange boosting device into a an epa sound test passing device.

some of us actually do our homework and know what we are doing,

Servos provide feed back in the form of a feedback Pot (aka resistor) that tells the controlling ECU its position.

If you have to ask why remove an exup then this whole thread is over your head. Do some homework before you post.

kwcomp and vcyclenut I trust you guys opinion. In laymen's terms is this a feasible fix or are there drawbacks to this scenario? I like the idea, but if it has negative consequences I will live with the light. Thanks.

I believe with the resistor or with nothing is going to be pretty much the same results. I just leave my servo motors on all of my bikes.

yea just leave the servo motor on, with the cables that go to the exhaust removed. No light no tach dance no problems.

like its been pointed out it only weights like a pound
that's one pound of extra burger & fries I can eat.

hey a pound's a pound. every ounce counts!

ok i just did what you said and the light is still on do i have to reset something for it work i followed the instructions exactly someone help please im at the shop still
I was able to fool my 01 fz1 but on my 05 r1 it didn't work for some reason.
I put a different backround on the gauge & blacked out the engine light.

Just two posts in a row insinuating I'm full of shit. Not a big deal. Nuff said. When I have proof they're wrong I'll post up. :fact

Sammy, sorry about the thread jack. Good luck with the fix.

you dont have to be sorry buddy just fix it for me please i hate seeing that light everyday and i already cut the wires so i dont know if im going to be able to hook the exup motor back up
