How to Synch 2007 R1 throttle bodies

I would like to thank ozzian for this how to.

So, there's two options:

1. Connect the sync clocks to the TB-connectors with the black caps.

2. Connect the sync clocks as Yamaha suggest BUT include a T-pipe on the left sync clock hose and there by include the MAP-sensor, otherwise the management system won't read any vacuum signal thinking the engine is at maximum load and give a very rich A/F ratio causing the engine to run like... No good.

The only difference between the capped connections and the ones the hoses are connected to is that it's larger holes in the "capped" ones.
This is because the MAP-sensor need some flow restriction, otherwise the sensor would go nuts if it was to react instantly on every change in the intake pressure.

This "how to" is missing something about what to do after you hook up the sync clocks. Where are the adjusters? In another thread on how to synch TBs, someone said to adjust the air/fuel screws. Is this right? Shouldn't there be individual throttle plate stop screws for 3 of the 4 TBs? If so, where are they....photos?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Pictures will be difficult as I do not intend to get in there before next summer when my service will be due. I strongly recommend you download the service manual from this site.

If you look carefully just above the black plugs (that you have removed to plug in your sync clocks) you will see on screw per throttle body.

The manual says one of them is painted white but I could not find it! So basically you look at the clocks if you have a straight line or one that is slightly off you'r done. If the readings are very different then you need to screw in or out each screw until you get to the straight line.

I prefer to have the outer two cylinders reading slightly higher than the two inner ones because you do the sync with the air filter removed, normally replacing the filter should result in a straight line (ie all throttle bodies at the same level).

Good luck it is very frustrating and tedious, but when the R1 howls you will be very happy :)

Thanks, Michel. I did it yesterday and it was fairly easy. I was able to do it with the airbox and filter in place. I also saw the adjuster screw painted white. Is that one supposed to stay screwed all the way in?

The worst part of the job was that after I was done, I dropped one of the plugs and had to take the tank off to retrieve it. Not that big a deal.

Thanks again for your help.

When decellerating and you start to apply throttle, at that point when the throttle plates just start to open, the engine sounds like it's kind of missing or "two-stroking" as I've heard it called. It's a sign that not all the plates are opening simultaneously. Does that make sense?

A bit of a rough idle is another sign of plates out of synch.
