Ducati V-4 Street Bike?

By Dirck Edge from Motorcycledaily.com

Remember those rumors about a Ducati v-4 street bike? Well, they are getting stronger and more specific. Indeed, it is believed that Ducati may announce, and display, such a machine at the Milan motorcycle show in September of this year. If the bike appears, expect it to be available for purchase as a limited edition the following Spring of 2004. Ducati is also believed to be aiming for a rather phenomenal power output in the neighborhood of 160 wheel horsepower.

By the way, these computer-generated renderings of the potential machine are courtesy of Antonio Regidor, Editor, Solo Moto Actual.

I like this a hell of a lot better than the 999, sleeker and more simplistic like the previous models.

mother**** that is ugly, but for 160 hp I don't care what it looks like.

I love Duc's for what they are but until their build quality improves and their initial purchase and frequent servicing costs come down to Jap bike level, I don't think I'll be getting one for myself but if I come into some serious cash to supplement my bike fix then I will definately have one:rock

Total cost of ownership, sans purchase price, is higher on the R1 (for me, MUCH higher) than the 916/996/998/999, given spirited and frequent riding, due to consumables purchases (tires).

The maint costs on my 998 were not that far out of line from what the R1 is. But tires on a i4 liter bike will absolutely murder you compared to the twin and will effectively place the i4 in a completely different league in terms of COO.

So the cost of ownership argument for R1 vs. V2 duc is not tenable, IMHO.

Now, a v4 w/ 160 rwhp (before mods) will make the tire argument moot. You'll be roasting rubber like never before, probably. I know I will be... :yesnod

As for all these folks carping about Duc non-reliability, I can only speak for my experience and from what I have observed of others, and I saw no significant reliability issues with the brand. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I know quite a few folks with ducs who've never had an issue with their bike(s).

As for folks who say the COMPUTER GENERATED PICS of the duc in this thread are ugly, I think that if Ducati stays true to the looks of the GP bike it'll have another 916 on its hands as far as styling goes. The GP bike blows the other bikes off the grid in the wow factor department. I think the Yamaha M1 and the Aprilia are interesting machines, too. And maybe the Kwak. But the honda is just fugly.

And if you saw that CG bike on the street, I think you'd swap pink slips. Oh yeah!
