I've run into this in the past with aftermarket clip on's.

The index pins are for location, I didn't have a problem with movement
after removing them.

 

I'll throw another vote in for removing the locating pins on the switchgear. Drilling holes can put weak spots in the bars.

If you have trouble with the switchgear slipping, try cutting a small piece of inner tube to place over the bar and tighten them down over that. They won't budge.

I couldn't get the orientation I wanted (more downward) on my Helibars (definite improved ergos IMO) and clipped the indexing pin.

I used tinfoil shims to increase the circumferential tolerance/friction.

 

if the pinch bolts don't hold it tight enoug hthe easiest way to keep it from moving it just wrapping electrical tape around the bar to make it a bit more grippy and it will enlarge the bar diameter. Works like a charm. You can drill them if you want though. People have done it for years and years and you won't hurt the structure of the bar by that small of a hole. Just easier to take the first route though.

 

I agree with the piece of rubber or electrical tape, works like a charm and you can infinitely tweak the position with no drilling.

 

i have an 08 r1..have vortex clip ons..where do i attach the stabilizer now? since it has that retarded piece that attached to the stock clip ons..
