I am new to the forum. I am a former racer in the CMRA. I have raced BMW S1000rr, Yamaha R1, Kawasaki ZX10r, Ducati 1199, Yamaha R3. In my opinion the Yamaha R1 is safest bike to go fast on. If going fast is that safe. I am looking for a 2019 R1 or newer with mods.

2012 Ducati Panigale 1199 - Fun for a first track bike/race bike. Plenty of power. More point and shoot. Minus would be poor quality slipper clutch, exhaust heat under the seat in the summer. With Woodcraft rear sets more false neutrals. Rizoma rear sets fixed this.

2013 BMW S1000rr - solid bike, lots of power. This was my B bike so I added Alpha racing Auto blipper to match A bike. Bren tune added for MR12 race gas. Lap times were almost interchangeable with 2015 BMW S1000rr.

2015 BMW S1000rr - solid bike, great electronics even at low levels of electronic intervention. Bren Tune tuned for MR12 race gas. Scary fast at the end of straights.

2015 Yamaha R1 - solid bike, great electronics if they were working. Had issue with ABS delete and bike would throw a code while racing turning off electronics I could run the same lap times on the R1 as the S1000rr but I felt more in control. The R1 has less gyro effect going into corners which allowed me to brake later. When I raced the S1000rr back to back after racing the R1 (switched bikes because of R1 electronics issue) this was very noticeable. The R1 did have a feel of less acceleration higher in the rev range however lap times were the same.

2019 Kawasaki ZX10R - solid bike, more economical if you buy with MSO title and use for track only. I did not prefer the electronics but only raced the bike a few times before a crash on the R3 caused me to take a break for awhile. With more seat time this may have improved.
All the race bikes above were equipped with Axxion AK gas internals for front forks and Penske rear shocks except for the the Ducati which had Axxion AK 20 internals.

The R3 was a 2015 Graves Yamaha. This was used in endurance racing. Fun to ride.

Super cool run-down! I have only ridden two bikes on track, and never raced. However, I can appreciate your description of riding the R1 on track. I am obviously not very experienced on track but feel very secure on my ‘20. Yamaha somehow makes a very fast bike “easy” to pilot around the track.
Thanks very much for taking the time to post this comparison-cool to get an experienced rider’s take on a variety of fast bikes 👍
