Is it true that YZF's are more reliable than GSXR's?

I've heard somebody say that R1's are like ticking time bombs mechanically. I've also heard somebody post somewhere that the GSXR's are not as reliable as the YZF's. Does anybody know the truth behind this? Real question being, are the new R1's supposedly more reliable than the GSXR 1000's?

I just think it depends on how they are kept up with as far as maintenance.

Definitally...If you take care of your bike then there should be no mishaps. Any bike not taken care of will just start falling apart, no matter what bike it is.

I wouldnt say Gixxers are ticking time bombs. But in quality and reliability department, I think the Yammis got the Gix beat in most cases. I have several friends that either blew there motors or tranny right around 12ks. In other cases I know a dude with 40k on his g1k. So its a hit a miss thing I guess, but overall I think suzuki reliability and quality is lacking. But what can you expect from the bike that is the lightest in its class and makes the most power.

All the major jap bike manufacturers make high quality bikes. It all depends on how well you care for them and how you ride. Some people get well over 100k out of their bikes, while others are thrashed out before 20k.

If you look at the recommended valve adjustment interverls GSXR's have the shortest interverl Honda probably the longest interval. In past yes suzuki's are definitly not as reliable. My friend had engine probs with his 01 1k gixx. MY cousin works in a bike service shop and in the sport bike department he said Suzuki is not as reliable based on service records.

Yamaha has the longest interval at 26,600 miles!!!!

I think Honda is 16,000

i can tell you for a fact hat many gsxr's at the track are dropping valves and munching trannies, thats why i sold my gsxr 750, i just got my r1 so i cant speak for its reliability, but i had an r6 that i ran for 2 seasons had been to daytona a couple of times and it never skipped a beat, my cam chain tensioner went bad on my gsxr in 750 miles, a common problem , suzuki has had several quality conroll issues with the new gsxr's that for some reason they fail to fix, check out the army of darkness articles in road racing world
