It doesn't matter if you wear gear and go 30 mph...

The pictures are of me. A car pulled out in front of me yesterday, and I hit it. The wreck happened yesterday morning and I was just released from the hospital this morning. I was only going 30-35 mph on my way to class. I was wearing my helmet, gauntlet leather gloves, A*Starts jacket, backpack, jeans, and tennis shoes. I guess my jacket and backpack were pushed up to my head as I slid across the car I hit, which allowed the windshield wiper to slice through my back.

Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be up and around again. Right now I'm rather limited on what I can do.

:scared it looks like they removed your kidney. who sutured you up:confused:
They even had a surgeon come down on his lunch break from surgery so that the ER doc wouldn't have to try and patch me up. I guess the wound was pretty nasty (as you might imagine a windshield wiper blade being), so this was the only way they could suture it.

Holy crap that looks painful!! :scared

Guess you'll be getting at least a 2-piece that zips together?? :sing: :lol
It's 3 miles from my house to campus, top speed of 65mph for 30 seconds, the rest is 30mph. I thought I was being very careful wearing all the gear that I did.

ouch! good luck with recovery!
yeah, ouch. Glad you ok though.

Thanks guys! I'm going to try and get a bunch of reading done this week, so hopefully I won't get too bored.

I've almost had my mum sew a loop to the bottom of my jacket for that very reason several times, but never actually got around to it. I'm definitely kicking myself for it now.

Man, that's messed up. I think you have it right. Your jacket must have slid up. Was there any slices in the leather? My heart goes out to you. Take the time to heal up properly. What are the details on the accident as for fault and the condition of your bike?
It was a heavy textile jacket, not leather. But there are no real marks on it (that I could see). The EMT's cut my jacket in two pieces so they could get it off me, as well as my backpack. I'll lay it out and take a better look at the jacket to see what I can see.

Sorry to hear about THAT! Hope you get better soon
Thanks bro.

You got me beat. No scars THAT big! At least that sucker stayed near the surface.
I was told that at the bottom right of the wound, the cut stopped just after touching the fascia of the muscle (the thin lining). Any farther and it would have really sucked. The surgeon even told me that it looked like someone had fileted my back and sliced just along the fat layer. With the sutures you can't tell how much of my back was really exposed from the wreck, but I guess a good piece was hanging off.

P.S. you might want to add "*graphic*" to the title (for the benefit of the squeamish, not me) :thumbup

That's gonna leave a cool scar. Sorry for the accident bro, sounds like you actually did ok all things considering. Could've been deeper, could've ****ed your spine with no coverage after they raised up. Hope recovery is quick and as painless as possible.
