Finally going Saturday to check the bikes out. I KNOW in the end, it's what I like, blah--blah.........I don't know why, but I DO want to know what you guys SERIOUSLY think......(I didn't do a poll before)

LAST TIME I ASK, PROMISE!

and thank you!!!!!!!! :)

OH, and NO BOOBIE crap!!!

:lol :lol

'08 R1 got my vote. While you'd look great on any of them, I know it's the '08 you're really after.

That's a vicious cycle. I'd never sleep! And for me it would be a no-brainer. I'd put down money on a 1198S out of those options in the poll in a heartbeat.

EDIT: Although I must say I ABSOLUTELY HATE SINGLE SIDED SWINGARMS.

But if you got a brand new '08 on the budget of the MV you could have one hell of an '08 R1 with all of the goodies bought with that extra money. Problem is that those other bikes already come with Ohlins, Brembo, Marchisini, etc...

Honestly, I have been going crazy reading, doing the research, getting opinions from people who own these bikes and friends opinions......so here goes.....

The MV---tall, wide, some of the aesthetics are cheap looking (?)

The Duc--uncomfortable, bad in traffic/commuting (which I will be doing) high
maintenance

The Aprilia--better for the track, not really a street bike (?)

As far as a BMW, Bimota, or anything else, they're not in my heart, (Thank you Seth! You are so right! That is exactly how I should feel!!!)

And as far as an R1....the reason I would want an 08 is because the 09/10 R1 (and no offense,) but I really don't care for the headlights!! And the only thing good I have heard about them is they SOUND amazing. :vanish

I really appreciate your opinions!!

They're all unique bikes in their own way, so it is hard to compare, particularly with the price difference... but in regards to this quote:

If your after a thumping v-twin sound, don't bother with the 09/10 R1 sound, it just sounds like a toned down Duke... go for the real thing and get the 1198s...

I particularly went for my 08 R1 because of its value for money, handling, power, AND for the screamer sound its' second-to-none looks, but the last two are more bias as they're a matter of personal preference.

Goodluck with the spend $$$.

nah, I'm busy finding race parts for melloyellow :saw:

On topic- I like the MV just cause it's well an MV. I would not want to commute on a 1198, tiny tank and brutal ergos but they sure are easy on the eyes :boobies (boobies? did I just post a boobies smily :hammer:)

And in your post above, technically you didn't say anything "bad" about the '08, just that you like the sound of the crossplane motors. I can certainly relate there. I've just always been kind of a Ducati fan in the background of my mind. But I do love my '07.

I'd say to let the 09-10 grow on you... setup the suspension to the way you ride... Catridge fork kit, shock... Slip on and tune it... and come out better than the mv....

Just my opinion.... I can give you a list of what's on my shop bike if you want..... It's a rolling example on how to setup a bike... Ohlins catridge kit with Graves tune, Graves ohlins rear shock and all the goodies... It performed completely up to my expectations... I'd like to get the on / off throttle cleaned up a bit and some real tires on it but it's damn near spot on!

Problem solved. :)

You guys are right, I'm going to check out the italian bikes AND the R1 so I can see them in person.

As far as the 08, I really want a black bike (but the MV in Titanium is sweet!)

24 posts and no boob pic requests? I'm not sure if I should be proud or disappointed in the forum tonight. I am however surprised...:lol

Oh and Duc 1198S FTW

Kim, just a quick word of warning from a mechanics point of view...

The MV is a pain to work on, and live with in all honesty. It's a very harsh bike, both engine and chassis and most riders don't find it a very practical or forgiving ride. Similar with the Duke, but I'd favour the Duke over the F4.

The 08 R1 is a typical Jap bike, it will do what you want, when you want blah, blah, blah... It's just easier to live with. I know that's not the whole point of a motorcycle, but to some people it can make or break their relationship with a bike.

Oh, and I've recently instigated a factory recall on F4s that you might want to watch out for :secret: :sing: Personally I'd never have one. Too much hassle and too 'Italian' for it's own good. Ducati have come a long way in that way respect and are now much better to own in my opinion.

08 R1 everytime. Save yourself a bucket of money too.

#34 ·
Thank you for that! Is the recall about the air filter? That is the only one I've heard about.

#42 ·
Shane,

BTW. when I win the lottery I am sending you my bike to set up. :fact

If I had the money for a brand new F4 or 1198S I wouldn't even consider an 08 R1. Out of the choices given I chose the 1198S.

...and of course a what-to-buy poll thread on an R1 forum will give more R1 votes. Maybe you should go on the 1198 and F4 websites as well.

The MV is like your C5 corvette in terms of sexiness and all around badassness. The Yamaha is like the other car that I can't quite remember what it was but remember it was a classic muscle car, its older but still badass and a helluva lot easier to maintain. Personally I would go with the MV but that's just because I can't afford one and the grass is greener on the other side. In reality I would get the 08 Yamaha. Heard to many horror stories about the Ducati's to get one for a daily/commuter bike. .oooo2 cents.
