lowering seat height for 08 r1???

hi guys,
i have decided to go for an R1, this is my first superbike, i have been riding since 8-yrs but other bike like eliminator & normal 180ccs, i have noticed that the R1 Seat height is pretty high for my height (only 5'6 ) both my legs dont touch flat down on the ground, is there a way to lower the bike abit by an inch?? if i make the rear shock abit soft will it help?? any R1 gurus can help me? one more thing how to findout the difference between the 07 & 08 R1?? i heard the model no is printed on the bike but where exactly is it printed?? thanks ...

Changing the suspension preload/rebound and compression for ride height is not what they are designed for. If you want to lower it, then lower it (still not recommended)..but don't soften the bike...horrible idea.

UPDATE-
i finally got the bike & loving her like mad:) both my legs dont reach flat on the ground as i m not tall only 5'6 :banned: i havent tried adjusting the preload yet, left it on deafult settings, my body weight is 66kg & 5'6 in height, i would like to know if anyone can suggest me some preload settings as i feel my bike doesnt go down at all with even me sitting on it, i need to become heavier :flex: any suggestion for the preload settings for my body type?? help me guys, thanks..

cheers...

don't mess around with your suspension unless you just want to ride straight, get it properly tuned to yourself @ a cycle shop

as someone mentioned above your just gonna kill the handling of the bike,

i had my first bike lowered cbr f4, man that was high as hell... it handled like a lowered civic with chopped springs, it was bumpy as hell, never again

i rather have one foot on the ground then lose out on some fun

regarding your seat height, what i did for the r1, was shaved the seat closer in, so it isn't so wide anymore

i think there is a how-to on here about shaving the seat

thanks for the info guys, well i am from India(asia) over here our roads are very bumpy & have quite a few potholes, i find the bike rigid like hell, it feels as if i have no suspension :no Will softening the bike shocks abit help? over here we only pull our beasts on straight line roads, we dont corner hard over here as we dont have good roads :bash I find the ride very HARSH on the default setup :yuk:

Hi insane79, I'm 5'7 and 170 lbs. We have the same experience, been riding my bike for almost a year with stock setting thinking that the stiffness in my shock is normal. After reading some thread here i decided to set my rear shock to -1 (softer setting) using the supplied suspension tool and was amazed with my bikes performance. I should have adjusted it sooner. Please let us know how it turned out.

Did you adjust the front preload too? i was thinking about doing the same as the ride is super harsh & i always ride alone, i think the default preload setting(5) is pretty stiff for my weight which is around 145 lbs, will try changing it to (4) which is -1 from default settings, will i have chances of bottoming out??
thanks..

every body is not the same....Im a conservative rider...a street rider ....every day comuter....seems thats not the case for some riders it seems..Imnot interested in track situations....seems more likely suspention settings are for the mostly the track ...the OP asked about seat hieght not weather its going to effect him on a track...I lowered my bike but guess what...Im not racing it..

I tried to change the preload settings of the rear today but i couldnt find the marker indicator as stated in the manual, there are no numbers mentioned like in the manual it says no "5" is default, but i cant find any numbers on the preload indicator, i tried wiping that area from dirt but still couldnt see any numbers there:no are they there? if yes where the hell are the numbers mentioned? one more thing how do u remove the tool kit, it seems super fixed below the rubber band thats holding it, how to remove it? need help,
thanks..
