I hope everyone is doing well and was hoping for some advice. I`m new to this forum and to the forum experience altogether so please bare with me if i`m not up to date with the lingo or speed etc.

I have a Yamaha R1 2005...My bike was fine till I saw a engine light which I`ve never seen before then my bike turned off so thought it was the battery and charged it and it started up again but with in 40 mins or less the engine light came on and the bike stopped so I took it in to the garage and they told me my rectifer wasn`t charging the bike and made me order that then after waiting few weeks for the part it finally arrived and was excited to get back on my bike and then the mechanics told me that my bike is grounding out to my frame and then they said it might be my stator so they opened it to find my magnets all broken and all over the place. I asked the mechanic if I would be able to ride my bike home which was few kilometers away with only a charged batter and he said it should be fine but dont turn on your headlights so as I was tryin to get home my biked turned off on me and I was stuck...So called a few guys and they boosted my batter and it started and within 300meters it turned off again and did this 3 times and on the 3rd time my gear wasnt changing to 2nd and the bike was making loud noises. Somehow i got it home but i`m really worried it might of effected my gearbox but can`t tell till i put the flywheel back in and get it started.

What do you think it might be and do you think other things might of been affected on my way home without the magnets on my flywheel (question mark is not working)

Thank you in advance for all those who can give me some advice since I miss riding and its been a long hard 2 months...

@ r1Totzauer Thank you for your reply...I go to medical school in Antigua and its my first bike, been asking my parents since I was 17 to buy a bike and it just never happened and decided no matter what I will get one when I got to the island and wasn`t expecting a super bike but a simple dirt bike and I to my surprise this Island had a few super bikes. The people on this island are simply crooks i`ve been thru 5 `bike mechanics`and EVERY one has ripped me off because I trusted them and dont know about bikes. I refused to leave my bike at this new mechanic`s shop cause I heard he replaces parts when students bikes are left and I just was so fed up and I asked him if I can ride it home and he told me `yes` so I did and there is no flatbed here or pickups to take my bike home... I was stuck with no options and honestly I`m just so fed up and ordered all my parts myself this time... I hope to God that nothing else is wrong with my bike cause I dont have a penny more to spend..

This mechanic has the right idea, but I agree with all the other members on here when they tell you to do it yourself. At this point, it might be advisable to buy a smaller bike to get around on, if that is an option, while you rebuild your bike. I've always done my own work on my bikes. No one else touches them. Period.

Rebuilding your bike is not impossible, but may be hampered by the fact that there may be damaged bearings or gears inside the engine and may cost you more to fix than you are willing to spend. You need to decide how much time and money you are willing to spend doing this and decide if it will be worthwhile doing it. If you do decide to go forward with the build, you will learn more about your bike than you thought possible. And you can always post up here on the forum for help. This is a great group of knowledgable people on here.

Best of luck in whatever you choose to do!

@sharksawyer thank you Mark for your reply, I should of joined this site the day I got my bike. It makes me mad that I can`t trust people here and wish they had the same loyalty for bikers they do back home... This mechanic made me order parts with him and I caught him lying about getting `different`parts for me and when I confronted him to see what he had ordered he said his internet is not workin and didnt let me see the purchased parts and I told him that I can see what you ordered online and it says you havent ordered anything and then he ended up making me wait 2 weeks when he told me originally that parts will be in within 4 days and then made me pay almost 110US on customs when my parts cost me 200US and later when I had the time to look thru the duty paper he gave me I noticed he made me pay for all the parts he had ordered for his shop...I called the police but they said since the transaction is done they can`t do anythign. This island is so backwards I would never recommend anyone to come here. I cant enjoy my bike in peace and just go to school and back...
