Shell rottella T6 at wal mart. Read up on it

 

I use Shell Rotella T6 in everything I own.

I use it in my R1 streetbike, R6 racebike, WR250 dirtbike, and even in a 800+ hp blown V8 where it doesn't lose any (noticeable) oil between oil changes. It's very good stuff IMO. Especially for the price.

 

Thanks for the comments, my only question is this: after the mention of using it across multiple engine types, does this have any additives that give any noticeable effects?

 

AMSOIL 10w40 is the best thing I've used. I use AMSOIL in everything I own.

I've run the Mobil MX4T motorcycle specific oil in all my bikes for about 10 years now.

Multiple brands and engine types and I've never once experienced any issues with start up or clutch slippage, no matter how cold the bike was.

 

Which Mobil 1 are you using?

No way I'd pay that for oil and change every 1000 miles either.

I've been looking into the rotella, it's a 5w-40 is it not? I generally ride hard, 10-13k RPM is the usual would that work well with a 5w?

 

5w is the viscosity when cold, thin for easy flow, and the 40 is the upper end, therefore it will perform as your 10w- 40 will except it can handle colder conditions.
This is why in even hotter areas the recommendation is 20w - 50.

 

I used Mobil 4t for a while in my r1 without issues. The important question is do you have exhaust? Air filter? If so have you added a fuel controller to make sure your A/F ratio is right? Is it the stock battery? I don't think the oil would cause you to have hard starting as much as maybe time for some maintenance. It doesn't have 40,000k spark plugs in it lol.

I switched to amsoil and never looked back. I like it, I can get it for under 9$ a quart, and it works great at the track. Never had clutch slippage and starts right up unless it's really cold (rare(")

 

I paid the money and gave Amsoil a try, found no benefit whatsoever so went back to tried and trusted Rotella T6.

 

T6 for the last 8 years with absolutely no problems. Try it, you'll like it.

Every 1000 miles is a lil obsessive... But i guess thats a separate argument. I swear some of u guys like doing " maintenance" jus for the sake of wrenching..

To the OP: As long as your Mobil1 is 4T motorcycle oil, your clutch issues are not due to oil. More likely just the normal 09+ shitty-clutch-problem that is adequately covered elsewhere on the forum.
I use 300V 10w-40, change at 3-7k miles. 1k mile oil changes is overkill, but won't hurt anything except your wallet.
Cold starting issues can be viscosity related, 10w-40 should be fine. The real issue is the starter motor is weak, and the battery is too small to allow multiple cranks.
I keep the battery on a 900mA tender overnight in order to get a single crank fire-up down to 32*F, in the morning. I don't ride when it's colder.

As for the clutch, Graves has a fix for that. I order the Graves clutch kit and springs from SBK Unlimited.

 

I've used Mobil 1 4t or t4 whatever, in my 06 R1 from day one. Never any clutch issues but it's all stock other than muffler mods. 25,000 miles

Never tried it, but where can you get it reliably? The nice thing about Rotella T6 is you can get it for $22 a gallon at Wal-Mart.

 

i have use mobil 1 4t full syn in my 11 r6 and my 13 r1 always and never had any trouble with it and i live in idaho and ride in 30 deg. temps ..

 

How often do u change oil on 13 R1 and do u change oil filter every time or every other time..and also is the brand of the filter that important

 

Every 3,000 miles. I like Amsoil. I'm switching from K&N oil filter to WIX.

 

Where can u buy these oil filters..I tried Auto zone but the didn't have ne thing but a cheap brand for my bike

No. You want the one thats labeled "4T".

 

Unsure on additives in that one that's the car line. They make Moto oil. Racing 4t for the bike.

If you go with Mobil 1, only use 4T. I got two free cases when I bought my '99, used it up and then switched to T6. Didn't notice a difference. T6 for life!

Autozone or Advanced typically sell Mobil1 Racing 4T, which is what I've been using in all my bikes for the last 10 years or so.

Yes. Works excellent so far (about four months, 1 track day). I get mine at Wally World when it goes on sale.
