i have an 08 r1 with 7000 miles, and been ridden very smooth since day 1. however my dealer has said i have an metalic noise within the engine which needs to be investigated. he says it happens in 3rd 4th gear, doing about 35-45 mph.however to my knowledge its fine, and have ridden my bike to about 10 dealers and they say there's nothing there and bikeruns fine.

but this dealership is saying that theres a noise there, which needs to be sorted.

so im kinda puzzled to what to do ,as i only have 2 months left in warranty

can you hear the noise theyre talking bout? and does it ride different?

Where are you located? If possible might want to get a local knowledgeable member to lay ears on it just for an outside opinion.

Then he's a moron.

What are you looking for here. You've got "10" other dealers saying it's fine. You've got a forum saying ignore a dealer, and you've got a dealer saying you need to bring your bike in.

Really...how long are you going to keep questioning everything.

Yes that's true. So continue to second guess and question I suppose. Ultimately you'll either drop your bike off or you won't.

As fro your dealer, he could lie for any number of reasons...maybe he's lying about how busy he is...maybe he's a moron...maybe he just wants money and booking for two weeks is just fine as it's still guaranteed money. Maybe we could guess all day.

You have 9 dealers saying your bike is fine to 1 dealer saying he's heard a "metallic noise".

Have YOU heard it?

If not, then don't worry about it.

If so, what does it sound like?

Actually I figured it out. All R1s do that at low revs. It is a common noise the engine makes. It'll sound almost like a pinging/light knocking sound when you start giving throttle in any gear.

If it don't tick it's not an R1 !
Where in the UK are you ? I'm in Essex !

Is your motor consuming oil?
Have you done a good visual inspection on the bike (inspect engine oil and coolant, check it over for any leaks)?
Is the bike down on power?
Does the engine idle rough or stall?
Does the exhaust smoke?

I would, at the minimum, expedite an oil change and carefully inspect what comes out in the oil and cut the filter open to see what's in there. If you find bits of metal, you should take your bike to a shop that your local riders can vouch for.

If all of the above is answered with a "no", it's prolly the Yamaha tick, but if you're totally sweating it, shop around for the best extended warranty you can find and go enjoy your bike.
