:secret: no good

no i do not do wheelies or stunt, this sprocket is 520 pitch stock oem 47 rear size, with less then 2000 miles, it has seen 2x track days

WTF

mfg?

ive never heard of stock motors blowing up aftermarket sprockets........

now my friend on a built s1000rr racebike blew up his sprocket..... :sing: that is kinda unavoidable when your pushing 200hp to the wheel.

but stock OEM motors with a exhaust.... wtf and its not like R1 is HP/TRQ king either.

ouch...

520, i aint retarded, and i dont think it woulda lasted anywhere near 2000 miles with wrong pitch chain vs sprocket.....

but just friendly reminder to PM your bike yourself, this saved me from being stranded somewhere on a ride, or worst having the chain roll off the sprocket and locking up the rear.

catastrophe avoided

We have seen every design so far have issues. We are not willing to take the risk, but hopefully it holds up for you. Every other manufacturer stated what would happen and they were right, and they are saying the same things about the 3rd design, the one you have. Hopefully they are wrong though this time, but keep a very close eye on it.

Guys not all superlight steel sprockets are like this. We have had ZERO issues with Driven, Vortex, Stealth/Supersprox. We are dropping the Drive Systems brand due to issues with several different models. At least yours didn't do this as we had a few do this :( We had several other manufactures warn us of their product and we figured they were bias, until exactly what they said would happen, did happen. To people we know for a fact took care of their sprockets/chain kits. This is why DRiven, Vortex, Supersprox/Stealth won't take out as much material as Drive Systems does. They all state it's not strong enough and time has proven they were right.

Glad it didn't fail to the point you went down. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you run these sprockets keep an eye on them...a close eye.

Think about it, in capatalism if someone has a great idea, unless it's patented everyone joins in...stainless brake lines, titanium exhausts, adjustable levers, lightweight chains, etc. superlight steel sprockets are awesome, but if making them this light was a good idea don't you think the big companies would do it? But they won't...Every other company that makes superlight steel sprockets will make them lightweight, but they all leave around the same material for a reason. It's 100% reliable. The last thing you want is a total failure of a rear sprocket. The teeth coming off due to a chain being too tight, used too long, etc is one thing, but it shouldn't just break apart at the locations that are designed to give the sprocket strength.

If you contact Brian over there and send the sprocket in he will replace it most likely, but you would have to ask him. That is what he was willing to for the customers of ours that had the issue. None of them wanted another one though and they all went with another brand, but if you like the sprocket I'm sure he will swap it out for you if you contact him.

thanks for your help and info, its very useful when a vendor comes in with real world experience :)

and no, imma pass on getting another replacement piece..... for obvious reasons

look at this area where i drew on, there is no material connecting the sprocket together at all around the base of the bolts where it gets bolted to, that means all the stress points of failure are going to be extended completely out at the edge of the sprocket, this is horrible engineering.

i could not feel or hear a difference at all

only thing i noticed was bike was 50% more difficult to push in neutral..... i didnt even really associate it with inspecting the bike after that

just cleaning chain, not even adjusting chain

so ummmmmmmmm if your bike is harder to push in neutral vs last time, inspect your shtt!!!!!!!!!

wow... yeah thats a good point.. pretty badly thought out.. or not thought through enough to back it up with physics... weakest link scenario... :shake

Wuouw wuouw i have a driven sprockets on my r1 hopefully wont break ,,,,, talking about other thing is anyone knows what type of ate brake fluid can use in a r1 /05 im planning of do a mod on my brake tubing (clear)thanks,,,

hmmm that sux,

i went 2 infineon on matt maladins last year, yea he won, yea i went to winners circle, ill never remember what he said though "thanks to all the fans, this is the biggest turnout all year long"

i looked around, grandstands was 90%+ empty, winners circle had like 50 ppl gathered around..... and now i believe its even worst with even lower attendees

not meaning to thread jack, but since people are on the topic figured id ask anyway...

I'm currently running a vortex alum 520 set up. Im not sure who makes the chain but id like to get a stronger / lighter chain, and a more durable sprocket from Driven racing, But im wanting a bit more torque... Im pretty much a noob when it comes to gearing, so what would you guys recommend?

#37 ·
I'd like to be able to pull the front end up a little while getting on it, But im not looking for so much torque all the baby wants to do is stand up. I believe its still stock gearing with a 520 on it... Dunno what that means exactly.. 520? over what comes stock, and the differences.

#38 ·
520 is just a thinner/lighter chain. Lots of people run them.

If you can't get the front up a little, even with stock gearing, you're not doing it right ;)

If you want to wheelie and are having trouble with them, a -2 in the front helps tons.

If you still have stock gearing try a -1/+2 for gearing. If you just want to get a stronger chain and keep the same sprockets there isn't really a point as alum rear sprockets are not super strong so they are not the weakest link in the chain kit. With an alum rear sprocket the rear sprocket is the weak link so you really don't need a super super strong chain as it's over kill.

If you're going to get new sprockets as well then I would recommend the ek mvxz or rk gxw chain for a good value. These are both super strong chains and priced well. Great for a chain kit with a steel rear sprocket. If you want something just crazy strong then that would be the ek zzz, but it's a bit heavier, or the cream of the crop as Jamie put it would be the EK 3D chain, but it's not cheap. It is the strongest and lightest weight 520 chain in the world though.

For a steel rear sprocket that is lightweight I would recommend the Stealth/Supersprox, Vortex superlight steel, or Driven Evo Spec superlight steel chain kit. Pair any of those up with the chains listed above and you'll have a great chain kit for the street. Strong and reliable and still fairly lightweight.

yeah, Im looking at an entire chain set replacement, This Vortex sprocket seems to be warped. Judging by the whole.... lay the sprocket down on a flat surface... technique... So im not riding it till I figure out what I need and what im gonna do.. Figure if im replacing the sprockets, may as well start fresh with a new chain.

Would -1 +1 be good? for some extra low end to get the nose up a bit more
