Huh, I never noticed that was a rep of Max's avatar. He needs the front mudguard painted the same though. That would be nice. Now I see the pic of the 'real deal' it looks like it's missing that...

Gorgeous none the less though :fact
I agree. He possibly didn't paint it because it's carbon. It broke my heart to paint mine!:cryin

He could have had the 'Dunlop' showing through as carbon. Subtle, but the best of both worlds like you've done with bits of yours.

When I get a carbon front 'guard, I've got to cover the bloody thing in fur, that's heartbreaking :fact :lol

that's a depressing thought :hammer: :lol
Yep, but no-one will be able to accuse me of not being committed :fact

Needing to be committed maybe :crash

What a few of you may not have noticed is that matey with the Marlboro YZR rep has actually not got the right kind of mudguard. The original bike has a sort of bucket style part, he's gone with a more angular one in carbon. It's these sorts of things that Mike notices about his projects and his attention to detail. I'd not noticed until he pointed it out to me one day. He needs to find a set of USD radial forks for the TZR that will accept a bucket style mudguard to stay true to the original.

Nice touches like that make the difference.

This is a great write up! I am definitely subscribed and can't wait for updates.
I love the 2 strokes. I grew up motocrossing YZ 80s & then 125s. Nothing better than the sound of those engines purring. I keep my eyes open constantly to find one and do the exact same thing to. All I ever seem to find are aprilias though. One day. :(

Great job Mike and a fantastic first thread!!! :thumbup

Believe it or not, that pic is of a Tamiya 1/12 scale '91 Marlboro YAMAHA YZR500! Built by a guy in Japan called Hata. He does a lot of scratch building and has some serious skills.:bow

I thought my tamiya kits were good but i've got a long way to go!

Sooooooo nice!!! I love 2 strokes!

My husband just bought a couple he's working on. Where do you get your parts? I know he is looking for something, I can't remember what part :dundun: He's having a hard time trying to find it.

... and a wife that keeps looking at holiday brochures.:argue
:hammer: sounds like us!

You're definitely gonna get a reply from Mike to that post Kim. Nice bikes!

Great pics and writeup :boobies

I was brought up on the smell of twostrokes. I had an RD125 dx as a first road bike. Shortly followed by the ultimate hooligan machine of the time 350LC YPVS :epimp

My mate recently totalled his TZR250 :no that was great fun. It was track prepared with a daylight MOT. I had great fun chasing that thing all over the highlands :hammer: i never wanted to overtake him because the smell of the exhaust was amazing :)

WOW Kim...a Rothmans MC28, arguably the ultimate NSR. I would love to have that in the garage. Rothmans has always been my favourite colour scheme. My favourite riders pre Rossi were Spencer, Gardner & Doohan all of whom were successful on Rothmans NSR's.
Tidy MC28's over here fetch anything up to ÂŁ6500 ($10500)!
That's a heck of a lot of money for a 15 year old 250!

As far as parts go, I haven't really had to source many NSR parts as many of the mods were done using parts from more modern bikes. Let me know what your husband is looking for & i'll see if I can help.

Hey Stevie, you've got me sitting here all bleary eyed, reminising about a year of my youth spent in the Highlands riding bikes like a feckwit safe in the knowledge that there was only one copper to cover about 100 square miles. (Sigh). Just reminded me of my first proper crash as well!:shake

Hope your mate's OK!

Thanks bud.
Mate is fine, he ended up upside down in a soft muddy field :hammer:
The bike didn't fair so well :no

Yeah the good old days of British bike riding, before radar detectors and speed cameras :(
Thats a :fact Ian. It's still not toooooo bad up here, but it's getting worse.
