I've been lurking a bit since joining but thought I would say Hi.

My visits have been very informative so far.

I've been considering a super sport liter bike which may or may not happen as it depends on finances but I like to do my home work. Right now I'm a member on several other liter bike forums.

I wasn't considering the R1 until the new 09 came out as I'm looking for something with a lot of low and middle end torque and a lighter then my current ride (2007 Yamaha Raven FZ1). I don't have any desire to get rid of my bike as it is very comfortable and makes a great commuter. It's also pretty flickable in the corners but I just want something a bit more aggressive. The 08 CBR 100rr was at the top of my list but the new R1 is pretty awesome from what I have read. I've sat on one and my only complaint is it's a bit heavy compared to the CBR but I've read that it's still pretty good in the corners as the cross plane engine offers good traction control. In the end my decision might be made by price but I'm also going to test ride them.

Anyone ever rode both the new R1 and CBR, if so may I ask how mid and lower end compare and which is better in the twisties. Most of what I have read has been in the mags and I rather have the word of the average joe then the bike rags. Perhaps even a compare on the Duc 1098 with the new R1 if anyone has experience. The Duc probably won't happen but I am curious none the less.

Anyways thanks for the great forum and you all have some great looking bikes. I know it's not an R1 but here's a picture of my FZ1, at least the engine is the same and it's a Yamaha.

As you can tell by the Pics, I've done several mods (I got bored this winter).

Welcome to the MaDnEsS :fork

As to between the 09 CBR and R1, I honestly can't say. I would need to ride both before I can comment on it. On paper the 09 R1 has my vote compared to the CBR.

The 09 is basically a street legal M1 988 cc version, due to the cross plane crank the power delivery is much better (low end) and power delivery similiar to a twin.

Your choice at the end of the day, as long as you ride.

Thanks for welcoming.

The CBR sounds like the most comfortable, which is good because I'm not getting any younger. Also it seems more rider friendly.

The R1 like you say sounds better on paper and way more aggressive in the low end which is also a key factor for me. Like you I guess I need to ride both.

wow... well hope nothing serious happened... "u said u couldn't ride for 5 mths", so assuming you're past recovery stage and ready for the summer 'eh.
or is that gonna be a while... either way, speedy recovery. ride safe...:thumbup
Tore my Achilles tendon. Got to start riding about 3 weeks ago and it's been crappy weather but I have still been riding. I'm a major wuss though and bought heated gloves and a textile suit. At least I'm riding though even if I do look like the stay puff marshmellow.

cbr is a nice bike .....r1 is different story.....welcome to the forum...
Please tell me the story :secret:

Welcome. Nice FZ1. I had an '03 FZ1 and liked it but traded it for an '04 R6 so I could race. Wish I had the FZ1 back...and yours is a beauty.

Thanks it's almost done. Going to get a chin cowl, steel braided brake lines, and a steering dampener and she will be set.

yah i just woke up and im going for a ride hehehe 50 degrees
I was up and riding at 7:30 am 25 degree's out. Rode for a bit went home and rode again when it warmed up. I just wish the Mt' Rose and Virginia City roads didn't have so much gravel on them. Everytime it rains I think maybe the roads will clean up a bit and then it snows 1" and they feel like they have to drop 50 tons of gravel.
