Just put on the Michelin Pilot Powers now I have a vibration. Its suttle at 80 to 90 but dont like it at 115 and above. You can see things vibrate more than normal from before with original tires. I dont feel it in the bars though. Could I have over torqued something, done something wrong? The tires were mounted and balanced by a Yamaha dealer. I had different Dunlop before this one from a friend and i did not even balance that one and no vibration, new tires now vibration.

its a very rare occurance when a tire/wheel doesn't require even the slightest amount of weight to be balanced 'perfect'. Some riders aren't as anal about stuff as others and so their attention to detail suffers.

:iamwithst But in my case they were perfect on the balance machine too, but we have only seen that with Pilot Sport's tires, i know it's hard to beleive cause the wheels also has to be perfect, it was on 2 99 R6's and one 97 gsxr 750, i was like

Hmm, so I would assume the pilot powers would be built just as good as the sports. I'm hoping so cuz mine just showed up today.

I checked the weights, before new tires I had no weight on the rear now i do have. Also the paint marks must have been washed off so i cant see if they are aligned to the stem. I removed the rear weight and it still vibrates so i put it back on. The bike used to be smooth as silk now its not.

I don't think Michelin uses the dot to mark the heavy spot on the tire. At least thats what I was told when I bought my H2's

Is this an 04 R1? I'm not familar with other year models so this may apply to all of them but one of the sites that sales the pilot powers has two different front tires listed. The owners manula (Page 6-21) states that you should use MICHELIN/Pilot POWER C (120/70 ZR17M/C (58W). Hope this helps.

This may sound crazy, but try not to balance, them, Michelin Pilot tires use to be perfect right off the box, iv'e had 4 set of pilot sport on my R6 and i never had to balance them, same for my riding buddies, weird, i know, but that's how it was!!!!
Mine required no weights as well

I always figured that was just some selling gimick and opted for the non-R1 specific tires. However I can't get an R1 specific rear since I got a 180 and not the OEM 190.

I took the rear wheel off and put the axle through the wheel and set it on jack stands and spun the wheel and put a piece of tape on top where the wheel stops. Low and behold it stops at the same point every single time. It will even roll itself back to that point. Definatly out of balance.

I'm thinking very seriously about going with the Pilot Powers since the price is much lower than the Corsa's. I've never ran Michelin before, but I've been hearing a lot of great feedback from the riders who use this tire. I also never balanced the Bridgestone BTO-12SS I have on now. The guy just lined up the dot with the valve stem and I've never had a problem up to 150mph. I do still have on the factory weights, so maybe that has helped it.

welllll, facotry weights helping would kinda be a very random occurance...kinda saying the balance point for 2 random tires is the exact same...either way, usually getting the lines to line up is good enuff...i read youll be at jennings soon, gpcustoms sells them trackside so it would be a good chance to try em...Leon also sells Pirelli if you wanna stick with them. Lota folks down at JGP promote michelin...

Well I change and balance my own tires. It's been my experience that not all wheel & tire assemblys require balance weight but there's only one way to find out. Remember the tire might be perfect but the wheel is usually not.

I'd take the wheels off check the balance. While it's on the balancer inspect the tire tread for defects. Make sure there's no humps or dips in the carcass. I've run into a few of those too, but rarely on a Michelin.

HAving installed thousands of tires in my career, i can tell you that yes, Michelin does claim to have perfectly balanced tires and i would support that claim 95%= of the time. Thats the reason they do not put balance marke on their tires. However, they do expect that the wheel onto which you will be installing them will have been previously balanced with valve stem installed before installing the tire.

I would actually expect that the proble m could be due to suspension settings.
Keep in mind that you have traded brands from stock that have entirely different carcass constructions, as well as profiles. This could very well lead to minor setup problems.
IF you have balanced tires/wheels, then this would be where i turn t onext.
But check the obvious first and check balance as well as wheel bearings. It's possible that you have a bad bearing in the wheel that is causing this as well.

Thanks for the info. Im getting them rebalanced tomorrow, unfortunatly it has been snowing here so I have to wait till its clear lol. By the way what is excessive when it comes to the size of the weight 30, 40 grams etc...
