Just got off the phone with Yamaha Rep!!!

Ok, I did not speak with him, but a close friend works at a HUGE yamaha dealer in chicago and said a rep was in today. 2007 IS NOT THE YEAR!!! They will be getting the 2007 R1's in mid to late August. There will be only a few changes but it will be pretty much the same motor and the same power as before. Im posting this cause there are a lot of post and threads about the 07 R1 and how its going to be so different, and that is false. The things changed are going to be the swing arm,the exhaust and different color scheme.

No disrespect (to you or the Rep) but would a rep really be in "the loop" about the Yamaha missile to be unleashed for 2007?

They certainly need to do something to regain the crown stolen by Suzuki. The R1 still has the best looks but now lags behind in the powerhouse department.

In the past Yamaha have put together special design teams specifically for the R1, I certainly hope a new one is currently working in secrecy.

I don't know and could be wrong but I imagine Yamaha were very tight lipped about the '98 R1's arrival. It certainly caused a stir.

well my friend adam asked about 07 and 08 and the guy said that in 2008 Yamaha is suppose to change everything,motor,looks...everything. He stated 2007 will be the exact same bike that was in 06 aside for some small changes like I stated(Exhaust, swing arm and color scheme) Im guessing thats why he opened his mouth, becuase its the same bike, nothing to hide because nothing will be different

If its true I am a little saddened but can't wait for 2008 to arrive. I just hope the revamped model when it arrives is still an R1.

An M1 badged as an R1 would be nice.

I think some people are forgetting that the 06' had some changes done,( swingarm & midrange) to it so it could be called an upgraded bike., and since they usually change every two years, that would make 08' the next generation R1.

My inlaws used to own a Yamaha dealership and yes the Rep. is gonna know whats going on. It's his job to know. I loved it cause I knew when the 1989 FZR came out it was gonna be the king of the road so I had a deposit on one before the release date was announced! I was not disappointed!

Funny thing is that Rep. now works for Triumph so I get a little inside info on them now. He just took his 675 to it's first track day and said it was definatly the shit on the track. Perfect in every way. It might not beat the R6 but he said it was extremely easy to go really fast!

trust me..the most UNinformed people at Yamaha.. are the REPS.. they talk amonst themselves and ya know how rumors get started. I am not saying it will or wont change..but its way too early to even start this. honestly the reps meet in late may. yamaha dealer show is in June..which is when 07 cruisers and such are reveiled. sportbikes get reveiled in August/Sept.. i talk to our yamaha rep everytime he comes into town..and he dont know anything. so lets just wait and see.......patience man.

Very true, and like I said, I just spoke with my friend who spoke to him. And like you said, he could just be going by what he has heard, and not saying anything based on facts.

What does "Tracker" mean, and why is it so funny

I just hope you are ready to get ripped a new one on the Forum once the new 07 is released. :yesnod :2bitchsla

I work at Yamaha. I'm a VP of Marketing. The 2007 R1 will be 999cc with 170hp rear wheel horsepower and a built in cigarette lighter.

My reps are outsourced Indians who are told to say new model releases are 2 years out to questioning customers so they buy the current model year.

Wait till you see this 07!!!!

I really dont think the bike is going to change till its 10th ann. in 2008. There were minor changes made for this year and the R1 is already the best selling liter bike due to its looks and why rush into messing with perfection and all these bikes are basically even horspower wise. Im up here in South Bend so im only 20 minutes from Elkhart and im always looking for new people to ride with.

i don't know why you people think it's going to change..... just look at how they always do it....

98- R1 is released....
99- R1 gets small up-grades..
2000- R1 gets slightly revised body with more minor up-grades...
2001- R1 gets more minor up-grades....
2002- R1 gets up-graded frame... revised body... along with FI.... but still same engine...
2003- R1 gets more minor up-grades....
2004- R1 is completely rebuilt....
2005- R1 gets once again... minor up-grades.
2006- R1 gets slight frame revisions... upgraded swing arm... and new clutch assymbly......
2007- R1.......... probably to get more minor upgrades......
2008- R1 will most likely be the next bigger upgrades.... might not be a new engine....

they used the same engine in the R1 for 6 years.... what makes you think their going to give you a new one after only 3.....
the bike it's self holds it's own on the race track.... the teams that use it just end up with problems.... come on it one super stock in 2004....
2005 WSBK yeilded a 3rd over all... after the team struggled to get the bike set up the way they wanted.....
we probably could of one the 2005 super stock title if Jamie had not been injured late in the season.....

so the bike is in no way outdated yet..... and still very capable.....
if i was yamaha i'd wait till 2008 to see what new things the compation might bring out in 2007..... get the extra R/D time and just unvaile the bike that will once again... raise the bar.....

but i'm not.... so i'm just going to still with my 05 and ride the piss out of her....

:iamwithst

why is everyone looking for big changes after 3 years, the past has always been 4yr cycle for major change :fact

#23 ·
it actually went 6 years before the biggest major change.....

but yeah it's too soon for any thing completly new.... and i hope they don't anyways....

i know we all wanna see the latest and greatest bikes.... but i'd rather see some of this stuff come a little slower.... cause if they gave us all the could now.... it might be 10 years before you get something new.... the 04-06s right now a great bikes..... i can't imagine what will be next with Yamaha finally does make a new one....

STOP GUESSING AND SPREADING RUMORS....

Here's the real deal... I OWN YAMAHA!!!!! There is a new model coming out in 2007, it will be powered by a 999cc supercharged powerplant, and will anll the new upgrades we've put on it puts 250hp to the ground, i really shouldn't be telling you this but it is actually going to be released in a small town in wisconson at the end of july 2006, let me leave you with one more tasty teaser, we have worked a deal with dynojet and Akrapovic
