Oh god. This is my topic. Let me start out by saying I'm a typical, illogical teenager that thinks he has the world by the balls.
1. Just over a year ago I bought an '03 600RR, which was my first streetbike. I had met up with a guy I had raced motocross with years ago, he told me I should try riding in gym shorts and flipflops to help beat the heat. LET ME MAKE IT CLEAR: I didn't know what a squid was, I was unaware of the incredible judgement headed my way. About a month after owning the a buddy and I were headed to the lake, he was in his car and I was on the CBR. It was a 100+ day and I decided to try out the wal-mart riding gear that had been suggested. About a mile from my house, a light had just turned yellow and I decided to stop so I didn't lose my friend. He assumed I was going to try and make the light. He was wrong. Roadrash on feet is not a pleasant experience.
So I learned my lesson. Don't ride unprotected and never trust anyone in car because they will always try to kill you. The bike was totaled, I opted to keep the bike and sold it to my dad for the difference of what it would have been if the insurance company would have kept it, I fixed the damage (right clip-on and throttle tube) and I got a riding buddy and he got a great, slightly scuffed bike for well under $1000 and I bought my '02 R1. All's well that ends well, right?
2. In spring it was time for new rubber on both bikes. well, I come from a pretty strong motocross background, I started when I was 6. What I've always understood was that new tires always meant worlds of traction... immediately. I was turning out of my neighborhood with probably 10 miles on new tires when I saw a couple of girls I went to high school with jogging. I cracked the throttle hoping to draw some attention, my back end kicked out, then caught, resulting in the world's slowest high-side. I broke off about half my tail fairing while the girls, and all my neighbors laughed.
I'm sure my squid days are still upon me. I'm hitting my first track day this Saturday. I'll probably have another story before the weekend is through.
