I personally own an 07' R1 and I just so happen to be a fat man (270 pounds) standing at 6'1".
My question is, what weight should a rider be for optimimum performance on our Super street Sportbikes.
When I bought her I weighed 240 lbs and I can tell the major difference in performance. Trust me I'm losing this weight, but what weight should I shoot for?????? I'm thinking I should be around 195 pounds. I welcome your comments. :butt:butt:butt:butt:butt:saw:

the lighter the better.. and I'm in the same boat.. 265lbs here.... and what kind of thought process do I have here.. I also want to lose weight and the reason is the same.. SO I can go quicker on my bike.. Not for health reasons or any other reasons.. It just to go quicker..

Ttriton- you the type of person that thinks about riding while your woman is nagging you and you use your bike as an excuse to tune her out. lol. You fiddle with paperwork and think about ways for improvement. Your a rider just as sure as I'm a smoker...

The cheapest performance mod you can get has to be dropping some body weight.
As said above, the Jap bikes are setup for what they see as an average weight of 10-11 stone so in your money 140 - 155.

You will notice a difference everywhere,
Acceleration
Top speed
Handling
Braking
Fuel consumption

Just lose what you can, every pound lost is a positive move in the right direction:thumbup

So ya, as others said. About 160. But a fella at 6'1 weighing in at 160 is going to probably die.....and lets be realistic here - that's over 100 lbs. Set a real goal and go for it. Then set another real goal - something attainable so that when you meet that goal you are happy and feel good about setting another. Having outlandish goals (dropping 100 lbs) in any timely fashion will just disappoint. This isn't "The Biggest Looser" with personal trainers and chefs on staff here.

Now, that said, and once you drop the weight you want (whatever that is) go to RaceTech and find out what spring rate you need and drop 100 bucks on a new set of front springs. Do the same for the rear as well.

im at 150. im guessing more weight would slow me down but i think i'd be able to corner better because of less work because of the added weight. the turns are 10 billion times more fun to me. whoever is hitting them mach speeds on the road need to chill out for sure though.

dude you are a freaking twig :lol

am 5'9" and used to weigh 210lbs i have lost some weight and weigh about 175lbs now and the bike likes me better now that's for sure
intend on loosing maybe 7-10 more pounds. am going to start exercising and that might just put some more weight on though.
Cardio is all i might do though

I am almost exactly 6'0". I weigh about 201 lbs with clothes and shoes on. I have just a little excess fat and do weight training. I would like to drop down to maybe 195 pounds, which probably means maintaining my muscle mass and dropping some of the fat weight. I can see weighing 175-180 pounds if I really focused on staying lean and not trying to have a decent amount of muscle mass. So You could probably shoot for 185-190 pounds...At 270 pounds though, I would probably just focus on getting down to maybe 230. THen you can see what sort of build you are developing and then change or continue your habits to what your next goal is.

awsome thread. it really hits home too. i got pissed off at my weight almost 4mo ago, it was a staggering (to me) 292lbs. at that time i had just saw a similar thread on 10R.net about a big guy @ the Dr's office. the Dr saw this mans riding gear & said you probably take better care of your bike then yourself, buddy as corny as that sounds those words really stuck with me, i was guilty of taking better care of my bikes than myself. now my next weigh-in is sat the 19th but the last time i weighed in i was down to 270. im a big guy and never will be tiny but my real goal would be 215-220 range with an ultimate goal of 200 even, im 6'0 btw. as far as your question is concerned yes, the skinnier we are the better these bikes will like us, they run better, corner better, look better w/o a lardass on them, they are by far more comfortable too. good luck with the weight loss, it aint easy thats fo'sho

I actually think this is a great topic.

One of the things that I find HILARIOUS is when you talk to riders (and this doesn't just go for motorcycle riders; I've seen the same thing with street bicycle riders and mountain bike riders) and they are willing to spend literally thousands of dollars on carbon fiber parts to shave off OUNCES of bike weight... but are 30+ pounds overweight themselves.

For the record, I'm just under 6'1", weighed 230 a few months back, am now down to 216, with a goal of 185 (charts that say I should weigh 160 I just can't agree with) with replacing a good amount of fat with muscle.

Your 100% correct, if your weight training it's all about body fat. For the record, I have plenty of CF parts on my bike, It has nothing to do with weight, I just think they look cool.

I'm 6'0" and weigh about 200 lbs. I was down to 185 last year but I fell off the bike and busted myself up pretty good. I think the lowest I could possible get is 180 even. I'd have to eat nuthin' but salads but that does work for me.

I was shocked when I saw Spies standing next to Rossi. Spies is just about my height and so is Rossi. Never knew that. Of course, they are in the 155 - 160 lbs range... ...no way I can get down to that.

you are exactly where i want to be. i too am 6'0 and want to be 200lbs. I posted in this before but 4-mo's ago i weighed in at 292lbs, i started eating better for myself and excercising & as of dec 17 im down to 263.6lbs. i think being 6'0 & 200 would be perfect for me. also i to got down to 180 about 14-15yrs ago but it was just to much to maintain, i couldnt eat!

Seems like every 10 years I gain 20lbs.
6'1, in my 20's was right around 160lbs. 30's went up to 180lbs, and now in my 40's 200lbs. Sure hope it doesnt hit 220lbs for my 50's, cause I sure feel kind fat now. Allot nicer/easier that I remember, rippin around at 160lbs........:)
