So I went ahead and decided to place my deposit, the first in Houston, for the 2010 R1 and of course the standard blue.

I get first dibs on the new bikes. But I've made my preference pretty clear that I want the blue R1.

I am VERY impressed and happy that I was not pressured and tried being convinced into buying an '09, at of course a very nice discount. My shameless plug is for Katy Yamaha in Katy, Texas outside of Houston as the guys will forever get any and all service, and probably a great deal of my accessories and gear.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with acknowledging those hard-working folks who go out of their way to satisfy a picky customer. Someone who has now earned my trust and respect.

To those guys, many, many thanks.

So, if anyone else is gettin' the '10 R1? A perfect 10. Let us know, and if are lucky enough to work with good people. :fork

I heard that Yamaha is getting away from using blue if you can believe it. White is their new color, all the Yamaha signs at the dealers around here are red all of a sudden.

the red Yamaha logo is not "new" lol

The U.S. has always used blue for some reason while the rest of the world already used red...that's what i was told by a Yamaha Rep. anyway:dunno

congrats:thumbup and it's not the 'standard' blue.....it's racing blue...or more correctly the 'FASTER' blue!:flex::tocoo:

So in theory I can preorder a 2011 R1 today right? Even though Yamaha hasn't annouced anything on its details

Can't say for sure. In theory sounds good though. You want me to call and let them know your interested?

I placed a $300 (required, I placed substantially more) non-refundable deposit and understand that nothing has been released as of yet. If you question my comments, I will be more than happy to refer the saleman and the phone number.

There's always one in every crowd.

Watch the EPA restrict all motorcycles to 40 hp or something stupid.

Of course everyones gonna Ask WTF? why would you put money down on a bike you cant have yet is identical to the current model out. Besides color...which will more than likely change. Sorry im just curious

I was wondering the same thing. The blue 09 and a blue 2010 will probably look the same, maybe a different rim color.

I'd like to know your reasoning behind putting money down on a 2010 bike? I'm not bashing you, just curious. It doesn't seem to make much sense. It's guaranteed that the bike will be the same as the 09's except for colors, of which we could hazard a guess that they will be somewhat similar. Even if they aren't, one could switch out plastics rather simply at any point in time.

THe other thing is the money. Why tie up that kind of cash so early in the game? If you really wanted the bike, so be it, but they only require 300 to hold the bike, so why tie up more than that? You are taking money you could invest and turn a profit on, then use it to buy the bike later when it comes in. Instead, you gave them the cash, and they in turn get to to make money on it (seeing as how they haven't even bought the bike from Yamaha yet).

I'm just curious to know your reasoning. One, why now and not just an 09, and why more than the min for a down payment?

Gotta be a troll.

Who would do such a thing? Especially since the Dollar is dropping like a stone with all this reckless spending. The 2010 R1 might end up being 15-16k when the exchange rate stabilizes.

Its not like there is going to be a shortage of them or anything, lol.

And look at his avatar info - says 2008 R1 on layaway - WTF is that about. Sounds like this guy doesent even want a bike, just likes the idea of it and puts money down for kicks or something.

I think the layaway is for the Schwinn, and is probably only a joke anyways. However, your avatar info says Gixxer and screen name says R1 rider, so you must be a troll as well?

I've placed a deposit a year ahead before on a kawi 636 in 04 for an 05. Sole reasoning behind it was to lock in a price. I believe the asking price was $8600 and i got it for $8k otd. Couldd be a different reason here. Just saying.

*edit: The dealer didn't have a definite price on the 05 yet when i deposited mine though so i was pretty much going in blind. Also it was a new model that i've never seen besides concept pics.

To answer a bunch of questions. The reason I went with a 2010 model is simply because I don't currently own the new body style and heard a great deal about all the kinks not being completely worked out yet. (Yes, I did hear that information here on R1 Forum), so after many people telling me the "bugs or kinks" will be worked out by the 2010 model, I decided to go ahead and order one.

As far as the money, I'm not going to come in here and say money is no object, however I would not of given them the money if I couldn't afford it.

Avatar: Own the 2008 R1, layaway the mighty schwinn. doofuss...

For those who keep asking for the info:
Katy Yamaha in Katy, Texas
Phone: 281-944-3190
Sales: Ask for Billy

Damn, some of ya'll are bitching like we were at a kumandsuckme dealership. These are happy days. What makes you think with me being in the oil and gas business that I actually care about the price of gasoline? Or the final price of the bike?

To my friends ribbing me, it's all good.
Everyone else, whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

Have nothing really to add, but my fiance lives about a mile from Katy Yamaha. Been in there a few times to look around while she is shopping at Target down the road(across Fry). Nice people, seem very genuine. The boss barely allows me to continue to race bicycles otherwise I might have walked out of there considerably less wealthy a few times.

Kmac: Good looking out. Appreciate it.

The reasoning I believe has been posted. And for those who can not read or interpret accurately I am sorry that the phonics aren't working.

R1: A gixxer R1 anti-squid troll from Virginia. I am impressed.
Why is it every time you come around, the toilets don't flush and the cats pregnant?

Waiting for the 2010 model is a good idea, I have been toying with the idea of waiting instead of buying an '09 myself. Probably they will fix a few small things here and there, but it wont be a redesign of anything, all japanese literbikes are on a two year cycle before they get redesigned. So for 2010 we will see the same R1 and GSXR1000 as we have now, but a new Honda CBR1000rr and kawi ZX-10R are due.
