I just bought a 02 R1. Im looking to up the performance with a limited budget of about $500.00 bucks. My question is the power commander the best bang for my buck. Bike already has scorpion exhaust and 16 tooth front sproket with K&N air filter. Also wanted to ask if I got a good deal on the bike it's got 7k miles and is in perfect condition. I paid 6K for it, good or bad deal ?

That sucks ! I have a pc with just a downloaded map and i was going to get a custom map done next week but if it's not even noticable that kind of sucks cuz just the map done on a dyno is $200 +

Don't skimp and still get done. I hate when people use a canned map. It's ok to use for a little bit until you can get your bike to the shop for a REAL tune. You see in machining there are these things called variances that make every bike different from the next one plus you want a smooth running bike with no glitches which a canned map will NOT do. ;)

People spend upwards of a $1000+ for power but yet are to damn cheap to spend $200 on a tune?!?!? Go figure!!

In a short: YES. But only if you get it precisely custom mapped.

Isn't the 16T front stock for that year? I'd do a +1 rear and a dry 20 or 40 shot nitrous kit and power commander when your budget is right. But that's just my .02

I have the 03, I just put one on and I do notice a big difference. I am a wheelie junkie, I used to be able to get the bike to stand up at 100 in 3rd gear. Now that Ive put the commander on tried it at 110, stood right up, 115, again stood right up, then the fuel light came on and i was also running on about 20 hours with no sleep so i put it up. Once it warms up a bit out im going to keep increasing the speed and see how fast i can stand it up at.

Now when i say stood right up, that does include a jerk on the bars.

Im running it with the map from dynojet, not a custom map yet and I have an akro full race system.

She still pops quite a bit on decel but I think im going to get the smog block offs as most say this takes care of that.

all in all, I think it was the best upgrade for the money, that is besides the carbone brakes I just put on... love the feel of them, and the pazzos are nice too )

Do you have a full system or a slipon? I'm not sure how much help a powercommander would be without a full system.

If you do have a full exhaust, you absolutely need the PC as well as a custom map. The custom map will give you more power, but more importantly it'll give you MUCH better driveability and get rid of popping under deceleration.

If you don't have a full exhaust, spend the $500 elsewhere. Whenever you plan to buy the full exhaust budget some money for the powercommander as well as a custom map too.
