I have a 2005 R1. I have a slip on exhaust and a 16 tooth front sprocket.

I can power wheelie in 1st gear no problem.

I cannot power wheelies in 2nd gear for shit. I have tried all day today, and the most the front end will come off is a few inches. People who can power wheelies in 2nd, please shed some light to me please.

I am beggining to think there is something wrong with my bike, or the 2005 R1, is un-capable of doing power wheelies in 2nd gear.

Do I need to stand up and do them?

I can power a wheelie in 1st gear very high, but its hard to hold them out, because its so sensitive and comes up so quickly. I want to learn 2nd gear wheelies.

Please, please, help me out here. Think something wrong with my bike? :dunno

Maybe a good description on what you do (RPM's, speed, seat position/standing, and a thorugh description help a lot). People with 2004/2005 R1's please chime in. THank you.

you should be able to power wheelie in third gear with a little bounce.

So 2nd gear is just a twist of the wrist
Thats what I do, but it doesnt work....

I get the speed up to 45 - 65 mph, let the throttle out (so the front forks compress)

and then I snap it back as fast as I can! All it does is shoot the bike forward, like I am acclerarting fast. Not front wheel popping up. :dunno

#1....this should be in stunters forum

#2...are you leaning forward (even if you dont realize it) when trying this method in second...I ahve found myself doing that alot in the past and they wont ride out much then either

I can't wheelie 4 shit, and it comes up fine 4 me..

power on up to about 5,000rpm then shut it off as the front dips down, snap the throttle open and it will come straight up.... then the tricky part that I can't master yet, gently feather the throttlr back and forth to keep it up, chances are the BP is a long way away, sometimes I think I get it up to the BP and it turns out I'm ages away from it...

It also helps if your fat like me to lean back ever so carefully as you do all of this technique... timing is the key I feel...

But then again i can't wheelie..

;)

Good Luck

I live in Hawaii right at sea level.

I have been riding 1st gear power wheelies for about 4 months now.

I dont think I am leaning forward too much. After all, I can bring it up in 1st like water.

My bike before this was a Honda CBR F4i 600

I crack it open HARD when I try. Here is a detailed description of how the bike feels when I do this:

When the front forks are compressing I crack open the throttle, and I can feel the front getting lighter, however not coming up. At about 6000 - 7000 RPM's its sorta lagging, and then after 7000 RPM"s it jumps out like a MADMAN!. But, this is already too late, because by this time the bike is still on the ground completely.

Do you think my bike is waaay off tuned, and Im not producing enough torque to bring it up?

I just got back form a ride after playing around with my PCIII, this is what I use to judge the power increase/decrease while adjusting my PCIII.

Keep in mind - this is not bouncing or pulling on the bars.

First gear - not an issue at all

Second gear - when running properly should come up at about 9000 - 10500 RPM.

Third gear - Since your at sea leval also, it should come up at about 125 MPH and stay up untill about 135-140 when you shift.

Sounds like you just need more practice

Ohhh, okay. So I need to have the RPM's at about 9000 to bring it up. I heard someone over here say they go about 45 mph, and then they bring it up. SO I was trying this and never ever got even close.

I think if I bring it up to about 9000 RPM's it should come up. Let me go try this.

R1LOVER, can you bring it up at like 50 mph, in 2nd gear?

My '05 power stands in 1st-4th at 8000 rpm... 16t fronnt sprocket... I have more of an issue keeping the thing on the ground (roll on throttle, not even snapping it open). But then, when I want to do that, I sit further back on the seat.

Im not a big wheelie guy either..but my 04 is tricky to keep down in 1st and 2nd. It is about 9000 rpm for me and it comes up without any shutting off the throttle then wacking it open nonsense. If I am not leaned over the tank it is guaranteed. Third gear and I just give it a quick little throttle chop at about 9000 and viola! up she comes again. Trying to power wheelie in 2nd at 45mph wont work unless you have a 60 tooth rear sprocket:p

dude, when you're rolling in second gear at about any rpm, let off the gas just a wee-bit, and all in one motion roll back on the gas pretty hard and slide back on the seat as far as you can. try not to let your body lean into the tank as it comes up. keep your weight to the back.
and a little note, the r1 has a pretty high balance point and a pretty small one to boot. just as the front end is getting high enough that you can't see in front of you, you've just about got it. let it come back just a little more and poke your head to the side to see. once you get a little better, just stand up.
have fun and stay up-right

try it whit the clutch ! go at about 8000k in 2nd gear and pull the clutch whit a bit of gas . you will see a zoom in of your tach:crash so be careful ....tell you it's all in the clutch:rock

That's becuase you are the best R1 rider ever....:crash

Vrooom, I really don't even think about it, When I want it to come up I just bleep the clutch and go. I normally don't try to do power wheelies, they just happen. I useally try to keep my front wheel on the gound so I can turn.... :lol

I'm with you, I like clutching it up better than powering it up
yeah, but is dificult to control, unless you going to third gear ,you need a full hand of gas in a stock 04-05 aroud 60,,:beer

Why thank you rollover... I should also tell you that I live in a nice little world where everyone likes me and I am just the best...

You just have to get used to the power delivery on the 04/05 r1. It will bounce anywhere in the rev range in 1st. Around 8000rpm in 2nd. Don't be afraid to snap the throttle. Some of my mates had the same problem until they got comfortable with the release/snap method. Once you get used to it, you will be popping them easily and without much effort.

i have a 2003 r1 (which has less power) and 2nd gear power wheelies are easy. bring the bike up to 60-65mph...downshift to second, and crack the throttle open and yank the front up simutaneously and it'll come up no problem. i'd watch out on the 2005 r1 because of the significant power increase. wheelies in 2nd (power) should be easy as hell. you don't even have to sit back in the seat...

When I first bought my 05 R1 it was easy to pull the front wheel up in 1st thru 3rd but since I put the full akrapovic on I have a flat spot so it makes power wheelies a little more difficult. I will be getting my power commander this week so that should fix that problem unless I need velocity stacks someone on the boards told me I need those along with the pciii to fix my flat spots I will know this week I hope I don't need them I am broke I spent all my money this month.:jump
