for $7000, i wouldnt get either one of those, whay not a newer r6 or gsxr6, would be an excellent bike to step up too...could prob even get a new cbr6rr or something for a little more

 

i've owned both a Carb'd R1 and a 750K1.

the R1 is a different class to the K1... it's almost a different planet.

hmm sounds like bikes are cheaper in US. Newer R6 are US$9000+ and cbr600rr are 10+. At first I was going for a 1997 gsxr750 arond $4500 but I thought pay a little more and get a 2002 then I saw the 1998-2000 R1's:boobies.

1. R1 easy. Power is superb, it's designed for wheelies.

2. Everyday the K1 is slightly more comfy

3. Reliability, both good, the K1 uses fuel injection and the R1 carbs, both have good sides and bad. Both bikes started every time without issues for me

get the R1 there is no replacement for displacement

 

A 2002 gsxr 750 is faster in the 1/4 mile and top speed than a 98-03 R1, and will leave them in the dust on any track.

Now on normal riding and low rpm roll-on it's another story.

 

If you're just off your Ps, I wouldn't recommend the R1. Unless you can control yourself. Try to ring it's neck like your CBR and it'll buck you hard.

What about the G force? I have a feeling that the K1 being FI will somehow feel more stable when raced in a straight line.

0-100km/h or 0-60m/ph for the K1= around 3 seconds?

K1 feels smoother due to the FI, whereas the Carb'd R1 feels more grunty

 

I think I will go for the gixxer because 250cc to an R1 is asking for trouble. Once Iam sick of the girly 750cc then I will join the R1 club.:boobies

Dude, the answer is simple. If you want an ugly bike, less nimble, bike that feels heavier (weight distribution), bike that doesnt make you feel like a hero (special) etc. go with the suzuki.
