Apologies in advance if this is old news and someone else has found a way..
I wanted to replace the pillion seat with the seat cowl as looks way better but still wanted to use the tiny bit of space under the seat for a cloth and visor cleaner, but the replacement cowl bolts on with two Allen keys. This is how I got around it;
Firstly, rather than bolt the fixing bracket to the bike, I put the mounting bolts in from the underside to act like locating pins for the bracket
Then fed some 4mm bungee cord through the bracket, round under where the pillion seat clipped, back to the hole in the Allen key holder and then back to the bracket. Securing the bungee in place under a bit of tention with two knots.
Then fitted the cowl as normal, securing it to the bracket with the two Allen key bolts.
There is enough stretch in the bungee cord to lift and pull forward the cowl and bracket to release the rear mounting clip to use the space underneath and also enough tension to securely hold the cowl and bracket back in place, located by the bolts.
Obviously a bit of a security risk only being secured with bungee cord, but I don’t ever leave my bike anywhere to worry about that.
Thought would share this idea as may be of use to someone else..
