Restoring a 99 r1

I just picked up a 99 r1 for pretty much free. But it does need alot of work. the carbs are all gummed up and needs a really good clean up. All the fairings are missing. That is just to start. But I want to put a new chain and sprocket set on it, and the lock washer for the front sprocket nut is now a discontinued part. Does anyone here know what lock washer would work from another bike?

here is a picture of it when i got it.

So far I have replaced the front forks with forks from an 02 r1. as I have plenty of parts from an 02 wrecked bike. Replaced the front fairing stay as it was bent. Got a used gas tank that I am going to repaint.

been doing a bit of work on the bike. Changed the carbs over, had the jets all cleaned out, changed all the fuel lines, reinstalled all the fairing brackets, and also replaced the throttle cables.

Now I have another problem on hand. I can easily turn the throttle plates by hand and by pulling on the cables when the carbs are off the bike. But when I have the throttle cables re-attached to the handle bar,the first little bit is very sticky and when it is at wide open, the throttle does not return to full close. What would be the cause of this? works perfectly fine when it is off the bike, but as soon as it is re-connected to the handle bar it sticks.

Been a while since I have updated, but I lowsided the bike, and this bike is now becoming a street fighter. I am having an issue with the cooling fan. I knew the switch went fault after i started storing it for winter as it didnt come on at all. Now I have changed the thermoswitch with a OEM yamaha switch, but it doesn't come on until 118-120C degrees. Before the old switch stopped working, it would come on at 106C-109C. Is there a different part number for canadian models or a switch that comes on at colder temps?

So now I have tried to adjust it according to the manual, no matter what I do, the throttle does not want to snap shut freely when the cables are installed. And same thing when opening, it is pretty hard to open the first little bit and then I can hear a click and it opens up freely, let go of the throttle and then it snap back to the point where I have to manually turn it to close. When I turn it, it makes that same click.

May sound stupid but are the cables routed right. Looking fwd to this rebuild as the 99 r1 was my first r1. Good luck with the build. Also check the throttle tube housing to make sure nothing is binding inside just a suggestion.

Here it is with new head lights

Shitty gas tank it came with

pulled the coils and cover

got a used kick stand as the bike didnt come with one. I had to use a stand every time I am not holding it up. Not that it really mattered as this bike had been down quite a few times.

carbs being cleaned on my cooler/workbench

how it sits now
