5'6" 150lbs - I have to keep as much of my weight in front as possible, so I'm almost always up against the tank. If I even tried moving all the way back, my arms/elbows would be out of position - not good.
funny you mention the numb hands because i figured thats why you may have been asking the question in the first place. it is really important that the palm of your hands aren't pushing too hard against the grips. if they are, adjust your seating position accordingly so as the pressure on your hands is minimal. chances are, you're sitting too far back...so try sliding forward a little and i'll bet you'll see a big difference in comfort and overall control of the bike...
