took my first real ride with the bike today , all i can say is wow, the bike is better in every way then my 03, and in many ways a lot better, so my friend has an 03 r1 , with a graves slip on he only weighs like 130 lbs

im 165 lbs and the only thing ive done that would improve performance is a 47 tooth rear sprocket

so were cruising at like 65 in top gear and he pulls up along side of me, so what the hell why not, from everything i heard about the 04 and 05's i was expecting him to jump out on me and i would have to reel him back in

nope, i actuall inintially puled on him a little bit and as soon as the revs picked up a bit i started to walk him pretty bad,

funny ive been thinking since the first time i rode the bike that the midrange felt really good, then i thought well maybee because ive been rding an r6 for a few weeks my memory is skewed, btw when i was on my 03 he would always walk me a little bit 35 lbs is a pretty big weight advantage

thought a few of you might be interested in this

well the '06 is the same as the '05 & '04 except that it has 3 more hp. That big differ. that ur feeling from the '04 & '05 is the sprocket which u changed from stock. ;)
sprockets donot make HP or they jsut change the speed and access to speed.
There is more to the 06 than just 3 hp... you can tell yourself that so you feel better having last years bike. well thats what I'd do anyways....

How were the 218's? I can't believe Yamaha has stuck with them..its an odd tire you can't buy aftermarket...and the qualifiers are right around the corner too...a few other 06's are coming with them on....:D

yep i rode it about 100 miles before i changed the sprocket, honestly the bike felt good without it , i just had heard so many people complain about the midrange on the 04-05's i figuired i would need it, so i bought it before i got the bike

also my father who rides a 996 rode the bike before the sprocket change and commented on how the bike felt like it had lots of torque and pulled really well from low rpm's

maybee im just being optimistic, but if there is not more low end power on the 06 then the 04-05, then i have no clue why so many people complained about it, sure seems strong to me

at 60 mph its at like 4800 rpm to me thats bottom end and midrange on a bike that redlines at almost 14000 rpm's , the bike pulls very clean and strong from idle so whether another bike is stronger at 2000 rpm's its not really a concern to me, though it may be to you

laubin I happen to race cars and when you change gears it will make you accelerate faster therefore giving you a better et. I know it doesn't give you hp smartass. :finger You accelerate a lot better. I also know all the differ between the '04 - '-05's and the '06's and since I have an old '05 I be happy to race mister '06 man any day and I'm stock.

so what you want to say was that the 06 isn't THat much different 'eh? we'll put this to rest soon as I have my friends 05 ready for a comparison...he even has the crummy 218's on it. We won't race persay but Do similar as to vcycle did...until then its all just speculation...:rant

I broke my 05 R1 in the same way I broke my 05 10 in. Run it around a little bit till the tires get warm and give her hell. Change the oil the first time at 150 miles and the second at 500. Never had a problem on either

rocket racer, going up 2 teeth on the back sprocket is not going to make a big differance , a differance yes but not a big one, its about a 4% gear reduction, also 35 lbs is something when your talking a rider bike package that is less then 600lbs, thats about 6% differance, not saying they equall out, but i think its close

id be happy to race you , im not the fastest guy in the world but im so slouch, you anywhere near jennings, as i only ride fast on the street and race at the track

as for a roll on against mr bussa, give me a couple months to finish my mods, not saying a worked busa wont beat me, but a near stock wont when im done

notice i said from a roll, that mass is already in motion and plays a much smaller factor in a dragrace. This is not unsprung weight as well, which would make a diff.:2bitchsla

good to see you enjoying the new bike... :thumbup

weight effects acceleration the same no matter how fast your allready going force=mass x acceleration so acceleration=force/mass there is nothing about how fast your allready moving

weight has little effect on top speed if it doesnt change the wind resistance , it just takes longer to get there

if you dont believe me, get on your bike and at 50mph accelerate to 90mph, now put a friend on the back and do the same thing it will take considerably longer with your friend on the back, I promise

dude... haven't you learned anything from the forum? your bike isn't faster because its an 06...its fast because its a RAVEN!!!!!!!!!!!
