Solution to all keep all the idiots off sportbikes

so after reading the post tonight about the guy who fled police and died in LA I think a solution would be to make a potential sportbike buyer take an exam (heck maybe even a psychiatric exam) to show some sort of common sense and respect for not only the bike but even more importantly society. I mean as others have pointed out, with this kind of behavior taking place, how long before sportbikes as we know them become a distant memory?

Guess I'm just tired of "some" idiots giving all of us a bad name or reputation. Yes the bikes we love are crazy fast but that doesn't mean we have to show all that power and speed and be stupid on the street. Ok rant over-Peace

someone somewhere will always give someone else a bad name...... however, i disagree with the test thing... if the idiots of the world kill themselves then it is more likely that they wont reproduce... but i am a jerk when im drunk

Are you willing to pay all costs applicable to having these mandatory test/evals? I hope there are not too many people like you. I do not need the government telling me what I can and can't do anymore than they already do. It's not like there isn't clear consequences in the event one of these "idiots" decides to run from the cops or do anything otherwise illegal on their motorcycle. A person should be able to choose whether or not those consequences are worth it.

Since we're here, why don't you explain what you think "common sense" is, and what it means to "respect" a motorcycle.

Joe is right, people need drama in their lives. There will always be someone "making" someone else look bad.

People are stupid. I'm no so worried about the ones that run from the cops. Becuase they are going to run it doesn't matter if there on a bike, car, bus, truck, foor or whatherver if they are going to run they are going to run.

Its really the squids. the ones who go out and buy the biggest bike they can afford and then proceed to crash it. I started on an R6. after reading all the posts I decided that I was capable of handling it. I did fine. I did wreck it some 14k miles later at the track during a track day. Now have two 05 r6s wr250 street and 09 R1, and M 1975 honda Goldwing is sitting in my parents garage. Need to go get it.

That bike rider was obviously running for a reason and I don't think it was because he didn't want a ticket.

And how do you know that?
I know a guy that I used to ride with that ran from the cops because he thought he could get away. What were the cops gonna stop him for? Because him and his buddy were acting stupid on the streets and people called to complain about them. When the cop lit them up, they took off only to be stopped at a roadblock and now face AT LEAST 2 weeks in prison, losing their license and are out AT LEAST $10k a piece.

What I'm trying to say, it that not EVERY rider that runs has something to hide. Some just think they can get away from a simple, stupid, meaningless $100 or whatever it is ticket only to end up dead or getting SEVERELY fcuked by the legal system (which is the way it should be). For those that get away, some learn but the one's that don't get ever more careless and that's when the shit hits the fan.

I support darwinism... if the biker want to run from the cops and kill himself, so be it. Less idiots on the streets. And chances are pretty small that he's going to hurt someone else in the process, especially on a bike.

Umm... we already take a test, and it is called the written exam at the DMV. Well in California for the most part.
If people want to do something really extremely stupid, I say let them do so, it will thin out the herd. Plus this America, where we have the liberty of freedom for the most part.

Since Darwinism is no longer in effect, what we need is a test allowing people to reproduce.

We already pay too many fees and taxes to the state and the government and have no idea where half that money goes so I'm going to have to disagree with you. Anger can inhibit ones ability to think clearly, and when someone gets a wild hair up their ass and spews it to a liberal then the chance of our rights being further infringed upon becomes that much greater. :fact

Let me explain since I work for the federal government. Sportbikes are going nowhere, I repeat, NOWHERE. This is what the government's take on sportbikes are......$$$$$$

As long as people are buying bikes, they don't care who's doing the buying.

They know people loves their toys and dumping all of their taxable money into them. Think about it, take away the millions of sportbikes. How much money will the state and federal government loose on tax and registration alone? Not to mention the gear, accessories, gas...etc..

There should be a cc restriction for certain age limits as they have in other countries. If you prove you can't act responsibly with 500cc, then there is no need for you to be allowed to handle more.

I think there should be insurance waivers. No helmet you write off 80%, no textile gear at a minimum another xx%. Im over paying higher premiums for jack asses who go down with no gears.

I agree with this. Change the accountability. If someone signs up for insurance and takes the perks of the helmet, gear, etc perks and ends up not using them...no coverage for them. Sadly, there are errors to this. If the dude is injured and doesn't have the money to get better - who pays the bill? Also, this plan does nothing to stop the dude from flying into the back of a car at twice the speed posted.

ok iv only read the first post. not even going to attempt to read the other but from what your saying, the same the goes for cars. cause there seems to be a million times more car chases than there are bikes. so would that mean there going to make all cars go away to. and there is to much money to be made buy selling motorcycles. so that being said there never gonna go away. just dont mind the stupid people that make bad choices and keep it moving with your own life. if anything learn from the stupid mistakes others make and take it as a lesson not to run from the cops.

Unfortunately it's all about perception and numbers. There are a "million more car chases" simply due to the sheer numbers of four wheel vehicles out on the road compared to the number of motorcyclist. Sadly, when someone gets spun out with a PIT maneuver, it usually isn't a big deal. The chase is over. A motorcycle on the other hand might split the van it hits right in half due to the speeds the car would never even be capable of. Then, on top of that - it ends up being some punk kid that looks like hamburger after he is finished flopping down the road like a rag doll.

People SEE this and freak out.

The same thing happened years back with the biker gangs and the "hoodlums" of yesteryear riding Harley's and Cafe Racers - the difference was there was a strong push by those that saw the feds coming down with bike mandates and got people to relax. Clubs started to help out in towns, putting on events, and generally making their image that much more improved.

They didn't sit back and whine saying well there are cars on the roads, and don't forget the other bad people on bicycles or those crazy joggers that are tearing up our town. It didn't matter, what mattered what was seen by others. The perception is there, and sadly will always be there. But if there are ways to mitigate those poor images I'm all for it.

Training, over-site and the big one - graduated licenses for all riders, regardless of bike type.

Saying that we have to take cars off the road is pointless. That's not the argument, even though it is an argument, it's not ours. Saying that others are just as bad doesn't matter to those that make laws. Fight your fight, not pass the blame.
