Okay something sounded like grinding or even crunching coming from either the clutch plates or the stator rotor. I opened up the clutch plates first, they looked fine but I changed them anyway. I noticed some somewhat significant play in the clutch basket. Specifically the six posts that the final clutch pressure plate screws that have the springs in all six. It was the part the six screws actually screw into was loose. Next I went to the stator. The stator had a serious gouge towards the base and had exposed wires. The rotor had serious issues, it looked like the inside leading edge was completely ground out so this was obviously where my grinding was coming from. I then ordered a new rotor and installed that plus a new stator. I put everything back together and still horrible grinding. I take the stator back out and the rotor and everything was fine but there is fresh groves inside the case around where the starter gear would be located at. I'm not missing any parts, washers, or bearings. What can it be?
