Hi
has anyone heard of a R1 05 stator rotors magnets letting go.
My bike in question has just had that happen to it.
History is that the bike is owned by me from new.
40K Miles
Battery was original and on its way out in that it was loosing charge if left idle for a week, bumping it was easy and would run fine.
Then one big big ride (about 700Miles into the ride) it just quits no juice. We managed to get a new charged battery but a few miles later dead again. So it points to no charge, and we take out the stator, only to find it jammed tight, rotor to stator windings. The magnets were all broken and loose.
All the magnets were loose and the thin plastic cage that seperates them broken up.
I have heard of stator winding breaking down but not the magnets. We tested the stator and its seems fine.
Anyway I have replaced everything including stator, rotor, cush drive rubbers and bearing
Attached is a picture of the damaged magnets and rotor. As you can see from the picture there should be about 20 slim magnets around the inside of the rotor.
