Hello, this is like the third post I have to this group. You guys have been awsome. My bike was working good the entire summer but about a week ago I noticed my check engine light came on, code 43, when I checked the service manual the code means that the charging system in the bike is not working, so I started the diagnoses. I checked the stator and it's works fine, it passed all the tests, checked the regulator rectifier and it's putting out 14.6 v as the manual said. But still no charge for the battery. So I thought it was the battery, so I spent extra cash on a lithium battery. Plugged the battery in but still nothing, bought a new mosfet R/R and still no charge. If you plug another battery straight to the R/R it charges just fine. But if the battery is in the bike it doesn't charge. Checked for all wiring harness, nothing seems to be burnt or grounded. Did a continuity test to the R/R harness checks out good. I'm frustrated at this point. I know this is a long paragraph but if you got this far please help, open to any suggestions.

Maybe something is taking a huge amount of power out of the bike when it's running, how do I check for that?

When you say you spent the extra cash on a lithium battery, plugged it in and still nothing.... What exactly do you mean? You have the battery installed in the bike, start the bike and let it idle and the battery isn't being charged? How many volts at the battery while the bike is running?

Possibily a short in the wire harness. Did you check your fuses?
I checked the harness all around even traced the red positive wire from the R/R all the way back to the battery and the ground wire as well. And did a continuity test on both and they were fine. The fuses are fine the battery is not looking charge when it's off, it's just when it's on.

Yes it's. Still not charging, it's actually looking charge very quick when you turn the bike on, just keeps dropping voltage unroll the battery dies then the bike dies.

Continuity with a multimeter does not mean it has current carrying capacity. A single strand of wire will provide continuity, but will not provide current capacity. Visually inspect your harness (and battery terminal clamps) looking for cuts, if the insulation is nicked or cut there could be corrosion that is limiting the current capacity.

If the stator and rotor are good as you say, and the fuses are good and you've tried a new battery there's not much left other than the cables in your harness?

Exactly, the only way to test the current capacity is with a digital low resistance ohmmeter. I doubt you have one of those so you'll have to open up the harness and will need to visually inspect every single wire & cable from connection to connection for damage and clean corrosion free contact points. It's time consuming but you have no other choice.

Yes I agree, and I checked all of the harness even pulled them out of the tapes and checked for grounds or burnt but nothing was there. If you plug the R/R straight to an outside batter it charges it straight up but if you direct the R/R straight to the battery through an outside wire in the bike it still won't charge. Does anyone know how to check if something is taking alo t of power from the bike when it's on. Thanks for the help.
