sure they are a bit annoying to tighten without a head stand.
if they are even the slightest bit too tight, they will bind which will make your steering feel like crap.
i dont have a head stand, so i remove the top triple clamp and tap the bottom nut in gently with a drift. then pinch up the nut above it then reassemble the triple clamp and go for a ride.
get on the brakes, if its still clunking then back to the garage and repeat.
if it starts to bind then back to the garage and back off.
the difference in quarter of a turn of those freaking nuts can be the difference between clunking and binding.
