Suzuki recently announced it was delaying its return to MotoGP until 2015 instead of the expected 2014, claiming it needed more time to develop its new 1000cc prototype.

And in a shocking coincidence, it just so happens that seven-time World Champion Valentino Rossi is out of contract with Yamaha after 2014. And Suzuki test team manager Davide Brivio - team manager during Rossi's first stint at Yamaha - made no secret about Suzuki's interest in Rossi as a factory rider starting in 2015.

Brivio, who at one time was simultaneously the manager of the Yamaha MotoGP team and Yamaha rider Rossi's manager remains as Rossi's business manager today.

"We have to look at the best possible option, and Valentino is one of those, so why not?" Brivio said. "We have to try with everybody.

"We have seen and I am proud to say that when we were in Yamaha we got Valentino there, and that changed the history of Yamaha. We showed clearly how important the rider is, and that has become obvious for the last 10 years. If we have good riders, we can show our potential."

Brivio didn't seem to mention Rossi's two failed seasons at Ducati where after the entire team and motorcycle being developed around him he was so unable to find his way with it that he adopted Nicky Hayden's set up.

Of course, Rossi rode a previously moribund Yamaha to the World Championship in his first season with the Crossed Tuning Forks. And he won at Assen last weekend.

But this is a much older Rossi, who will be 36 at the start of the 2015 season. Still, the marketing and PR value of landing Rossi would be immense. Plus even if his speed has faded, The Doctor can help develop a conventional Japanese bike, proven by his tenures at Honda and Yamaha.

I don't imagine we will see him on a suzuki in 2015, if he's going to ride he's going to ride a proven bike. He's already demonstrated Yamahas could win back when Biaggi said they couldn't. Casey Stoner demonstrated Ducati could win when Rossi said they couldn't.

Rossi is an amazing rider, and the biggest name in MotoGP history, so if Suzuki showed him a number followed by a lot of 0's on a contract, maybe he'd switch, but I think he's only got a couple of seasons left in him and he wants to try to go out on top. IMO, Suzuki is unlikely to be there in the timeframe Rossi has left.

When he re-signed with Yamaha his contract included an option for 2015/2016 for WSBK to develop and race the new R1 but I think he has Ago's record on the brain. He's just not that far away. After the Assen win he said something like "I want to grow old in MotoGP." He'll stay as long as he can to try and get Ago's 122 total.

He'll waste valuable time on a Suzuki if he really wants that record. His best bet is to win a bunch till his contract is up and either hope yamaha or Honda wants him IMO. Unless Kawi is ready to dump a crap-ton of money into him and a bike miraculously

Didn't Suzuki just race in MotoGp just a couple of years ago?! Their development has fallen behind that far that it has to wait til 2015?! NO! The writting is on the wall, they want Rossi. Suzuki will be more interested in seeing their bike and Rossi on it in the magazines and internet site than competing for a championship. Ride the Rossi bandwagon for a couple years and grab a Moto 2 or WSBK champion down the road.

Rossi/Burgess were never going to tame the Duc. You need a willing mfr who can take feedback and act on it accordingly. The Duc team was anything but that. Hell, I had high hopes for Audi, but they are taking way too long to make major improvements. That is a shocker considering their extremely successful racing resume in other forms of racing. There must be significant budgetary issues going on.

Ah musical chairs already for 2015... :shake :lol :shake :lol

It all depends on the results. But I think Rossi would prefer to stay with Yamaha as long as possible. I also think his desire to go "experimenting" with another brand like Suzuki would be if he loses full factory support. Honda and Ducati will never happen again. Also Aprilia might have a stab at the game in full factory support. Maybe even BMW??? All in all it depends if the recent increase in speed was a one off or something that will make him be his old dominating self again. Germany will be a great test as he goes well there.
