Ticking or buzzing noise on '04?

Okay so I didn't know where to post this. This is not my first bike but it is my first Yami. I'm hearing a "ticking" or "buzzing" sound coming from the front of my 04 and it appears to get slightly louder (still faint) as I open the throttle. Any ideas or is anyone else hearing this? It's not valve tap because I know what that sounds like and it doesn't do it at idle. Anyone else have this problem or is it inherrent in this bike?

Induction noise from the ram air!

I think the ram air isn't either on or off. The air is forced into the intake at any speed, you probably just notice it more as you gain speed until the engine noise overtakes the ram air noise. I hear it too, but never thought much about it.

You're right that air goes into the airbox but the "ram air" (a positive charge pressure in the airbox) doesn't happen until approx. 60 mph.

As for the noise, it does make me feel somewhat better knowing that it's not just my bike. If it's inherent on the bike, then so be it and I can live with it, but I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a singular issue with my bike that could have led to something much larger. I'm almost to the 1000 mile mark and was a bit concerned that once I opened it up, I'd suffer a major problem.

Thanks for all of the input.

Ahhh, I learned something new. Now,what if you made the air intakes smaller, wouldn't that increase the air intake pressure like holding the end of a hose with your thumb? If so could you put some kind of insert to reduce the intake size and increase the pressure?

At the predetermined speed there is no air "escaping" back out of the air box. The air coming in "holds back" the air inside, thus creating the positive pressure. If you reduce the intake size, then you run the risk of starving the motor for air, like having a clogged filter. The intakes are designed for optimum induction.

Now I'm no engineer, so this may not be entirely correct, but it's the basic concept and what I was led to believe.

As you'll notice from the pic in my sig, I've already changed to a DB windscreen so that can't be it. On my bike it's got to be something else.

And as for the bug, believe it or not I thought that it might be my helmet so I took it off and still heard it. I thought that maybe the air waqs hitting it and somehow making the noise.

I get a "buzzing" coming from the left-hand side of my windscreen -- it doesn't happen at idle and only kicks in at 3,500-4,000 RPM's in any gear. After that either it stops or I can't hear it anymore (because of wind or engine/exhaust noise). If I push on the windscreen it seems to go away. I tried tightening all my screws on the windscreen but to no avail. At first I thought it was something loose somewhere (speedo, etc...) but I've got no idea. I am getting a service this week end, so I'll ask the dealer if he can find it. It's not too bad -- it just p*sses me off, that's all. It's not THAT loud -- but I hear it EVERY time I accelerate -- probably because I am listening for it now, though...

I'm leaning more towards the FI system but my dealer is also SUPPOSEDLY going to talk to a Yamaha rep this week and see what, if anything, he's heard. Since I've replaced my windscreen, I don't think that's the problem on my bike, but like you said, now I listen for it ALL of the time and it's pissing me off.
