I have had my 2002 R1 for almost 2 months. I checked the tire pressure today and it reads 32(front) and 32 (rear). I am sort of heavy (between 178-185). What is the best tire pressure for the bike considering my weight?

Thanks

Daniel

I weigh 75-78 Kilograms and run 2,5 bar front and back on the road and 2,1 front and 1.9 back for the track.

For those of us who don't have a gibberish to english units calculator, let me offer mine (j/k luma)

I'm 205 lbs and I like about 35 psi back and 32 psi front on road and on the track I like 32 psi back and 30 psi front

Ok forgot about adding the converted figures 75kg = 200.9 pounds (troy) 2.5 bar = 36 psi 1.9 bar = 27.5 psi and 2.1 bar = 30.4 psi.

If you"re just riding around town 32 front and 34 rear give you good feel(compliance) along with good wear. If you do a little mountain or canyon carving then bumping those up 2 - 3 psi will give you better stick. While I"m thinking of it if you"re using your toy in the manner it was designed then try a 180 on the rear.......you will notice a difference in the flickability!

I run 40/40 highway and 35/35 for cornering, your tire will wear alot quicker with the lower pressure, and dont forget the reccomended is 42/42(for the longest life) :fact
Where did you read that 42/42 is the best for tire life or are you going by common sense?

42 psi is the maximum pressure for most sport bike tires. That pressure is to be used with the tires at their maximum load.

If you run your R1 with no passengers at 42 psi front and rear, you are just asking to crash. The tires are not meant to run at that pressure with the standard load. The contact patch is way too small.

I usually run my street tires at 34 psi front and 36 psi rear for general riding. If I am going to ride in the twisties, I will lower the pressure to 32 psi front and rear.

If I am running D208GP tires on the street, I run 33 psi front and 31 psi rear most of the time. On the track I run 31 psi front and 29 psi rear.

pressures...

Metzeler Rennsport (race)RS-1 front 30psi, RS-2 28psi rear for trackdays(Thunderhill), 32 front, 34 rear street on D208ZR's.

42psi? Seems like it would feel like ice skating without the skates...Scary, not to mention uncomfortably rough...
