I just got a new 05 R1 yesterday....and i caught it when i was at the dmv today that the title says exceeds mechanical limits by the mileage...the lady at the desk says that the odometer rolled back to 00000 after he drove a certain amount....soo ummm this means i got a bike with many more miles then it says it has right huh?

how bad did i get ****ed

YOu have a new 05? As in...brand new? Did you buy it from a dealer? Was it inspected? HOw did they know that the bike had been ridden?

If I am doing a buy I always got to AAA or DMV with selling party for a clean title transfer. Done it 3 times @ AAA no issues.

Sorry to hear of your bs, good luck with it.

wow...i would be on my way to get money back from seller or take it another step further. You don't know what else could have been done to it. Also, maybe the cluster was replaced. Don't think the miles transer, but I could be wrong.

You are right. Could have been wreaked? Maybe for resale value, they turned it back to 0000 to start the miles over. Either way, the bike is marked and the value is ruined. I'm going to assume he paid top dollar for it.

I dunno. If the mileage had exceeded the mechanical limit, then it should've been on the title PRIOR to purchase. You can try going to court, but it may just be a case of caveat emptor...let the buyer beware. In other words, you didn't cover all your bases and you got worked.

:yesnod You pretty much bought a salvage title bike. Honestly I don't think there's much you can do with the seller. If you really want your money back then you can try but he could tell you to pound sand too.

everyone makes such a big deal about a bike thats been dropped...its has been down maybe....the frame and motor and tranny is good...whats the difference if im gona replace the motor when it blows up one day anyway...whats the diff between a bike that went down and one that didnt if the frame didnt get damaged?

could have been wrecked in front.. if it took out one of clips or tabs on odometer.. they prolly replaced it with new one.. hence 0000 miles on new odometer. i would ask seller what deal is.. maybe he will tell u, maybe not.

well me and my buddy took it apart a little and found it it has a bmc air filter...and graves velocity stacks :)

if the bikes runs like a bat out of hell which it should then leave it alone... i wouldnt worry about it just don't try and sell it and if you do sell it to some young kid they will never know.:sing:

It should be easy to tell if a bike has big mileage, check for rock dings in paint, chips in the wheel powdercoat from many tire changes, shift lever rubber, clutch , brake levers should be very shiny where your hands go etc...

I wouldn't count on that :rock I have over 10k on mine now and it still looks new :) I all depends on how you take care of it.

So you purchased it with no miles on the odometer?

Again, the bike is an awesome bike! No matter if it has 100 miles or 100,000 miles. That is not the point. If you are happy with your purchase, congrats, a hell of a bike, though I'd still have purchased an '05-'07 GSXR over it.

The only point that I was making was that if you plan on selling it and getting the retail value out of it or heaven forbid a loan payoff down the road, it is going to hurt badly, as it is worthless in value with mileage damage.
