does anyone know what the topspeed would be at redline in 6th on an 05R1? stock gearing

kinda a dumb question. but just wondering...

somewhere i saw post with info on gearing and theoretical top speed at redline. cant remember, but i think is was suppose to be like 192(without aero, drag and real world power to get to that speed). dunno have to see if i can find post. course stock bike wont pull those types of figures in real world conditions on road.

or are u wanting to know what actual gps top speed of bike on red line would be?

The gearing of a 04-06 is:

Primary 65/43
1. Gear 38/15
2. Gear 33/16
3. Gear 37/21
4. Gear 35/23
5. Gear 30/22
6. Gear 33/26
Final 45/17

So to get your speed at 13500 rpm in 6th:
13500 / (65/43 * 33/26 * 45/17) * rear tire rolling circumference * 60 / 100000 = kmh.

I am running on bridgestone slicks with a diameter of 645 mm (circumference = pi * 645mm) , so with stock gearing that would be 323 kmh in 6. at 13500 rpm.

According to a motorcycle gear calculator, using 13,500 rpm's, stock transmission and stock final drive, a 2005 R1 would mathmatically go 185 mph.

2005 R1

Primary reduction ratio 65/43 (1.512)

Secondary reduction ratio 45/17 (2.647)

1st gear 38/15 (2.533)
2nd gear 33/16 (2.063)
3rd gear 37/21 (1.762)
4th gear 35/23 (1.522)
5th gear 30/22 (1.364)
6th gear 33/26 (1.269)

Rear tire
Tire type Tubeless
Size 190/50 ZR17 (73W)

with -1 in front.. it might actually run little faster than stock front...if bike is all stock. but if u have pipes, pc and such. it will hurt top end by 8-10 mph with -1. not that u will get full 8-10 if u go back stock. lotsa variables there. let us know how it does

on an 04 motor (put down 152hp) I pulled 181mph via GPS with +1 rear sprocket.
on an 07 motor (put down 160hp) I pulled 186mph via GPS with +1 rear sprocket.

down one in the front will greatly impact your top speed but if you don't have the motor to pull the stock gearing then it may do you some good (as 1longR1 mentioned).

you'll also need good form to limit drag, if you're head is up and causing bad aero then you will certainly get a slower speed.
