Ok my 99 model is starting to make a few noises that are starting to bug.
So think it will be a good ideal to have a good service but what can I expect to pay for it? :dundun:
This really is a question for the UK guys that use this forum. :thumbup

Funny had a R1 track bike that was well thrashed and sounded as sweet as a nut this road bike has been well loved and starting to sound like a bag of spanners just goes to show you can never tell.

You don't mention the mileage but if it involves checking/adjusting valve clearances then it will be very expensive due to time etc.

A couple of years ago I cosidered having a 6000 mile service and the Yamaha dealership said it would be about ÂŁ75 for a service including Exup and carbs, plus plugs and airfilter (if required). Possible total cost about ÂŁ150.

I decided to buy the parts and do it myself. Including the cost of a Morgan Carbtune I saved money and had peace of mind that the job was done properly.

Hey there mate. I own a bike shop in the UK and I would charge between ÂŁ120-140 for an interim service depending on needing an air filter or not. It would be between ÂŁ260-280 for a major service. That service is huge though and includes removing rear swingarm to lube bearings etc. Not many shops do that so make sure the one you take it to does.

How many miles do you have on your bike and can you describe the noises a bit better? :)

Sorry should have said its done 16k and according to the service book has been serviced regular.
I only got the bike around a year ago and by the look of the bike its had a easy life.
I must admit I think me abusing it has been a bit of a shock and now there are a few rattles seeming to come from mid engine .
I think it could do with a major one but the problem is as we all know you don’t always get what you pay for. Do you think a tuning shop would be better that a main dealer I’m from Bristol so if anyone got recommendations shout out.

LOL Cheers William, I'm honoured :)

I hate to tell you mate but if you have some noises 'mid engine', that may not be something cured even on a major service. That should include valve adjustment (although you'rs isn't technically due until 20k miles), balancing throttle assy, new plugs and cam chain tensioner check. Apart from changing oil/filter and coolant, that's it for the engine. If you have other noises it may be worth getting them checked specifically.

Are you sure the rattles aren't just the clutch basket? That's a weak link in R1's and usually makes a lot of noise. Listen to the bike idling in neutral and pull the clutch lever in and out. If the noise goes with the lever in, that's a good indication of a worn clutch basket damping mech.

Weeksy, I'm actually going to Aylesbury to my dyno guy on Wednesday again. What a coincidence eh?
