How depressing, just goes to show that you gotta lock your bike to something immobile if possible. Good reminder for everyone to stay vigilant.

My 05 r1 was stolen in a similar dodge minivan, silver though. And right in front of my eyes. I chased 'em down but they got away.:nforc:

Mine was actually chained with a Kryptonite "New York Tough" chain. 1 inch thick braided steel cable. Locked to a permanent parking fixture through the swingarm and rear wheel. Took them maybe 5 seconds to cut it and get away. Not too metion I had a Loud as hell alarm equiped and going crazy the whole time as they drove away.

i think we can agree that you cant stop it but you can only prevent it. lowjack seems like a good investment. luckily i keep my bike in my garage and when its not in the garage im riding it.

 

That move they did is called a "Shoebox" , those guy's were lucky but slow and stupid about it. The really good ones take much less time and would've made a couple passes instead of waiting to get pointed out by the cops by parking in a through lane. The experienced thieves would've also used a couple steel pipes, two baseball bats or nylon carry straps through the spokes to lift the bike more efficiently.

That was a very stupid way to park that bike. My rule is that if I can't see it , I leave it home. There's an autotheft training video that shows a thief opening disc locks in under 10 seconds , and we had a jackass around here using a pipe cutter and taking posts out to get the kriptonite chains off.

When my bike got jacked here in NC the detective said there was a huge crime ring of guy's who steal a minivan and rip the seats out and then fit as many bikes as they can in it.

I've been watching craigs list and ebay I'm wondering where all these parts go?? Or do people really take them a few states away and ride them?

 

if their smart (which most probably arent) they'll wait a few months, part them out, grind down the serial numbers and sell the parts off on ebay

If their really smart they'll list the state the parts are being sent from as a different one to throw people off

 

Nothing you can do about it. Enjoy it, don't worry all the time. Full insurance and a new one if it happens. The dudes will probably get caught with the tape and all.
